Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New engine for an Astra

My car broke down on the motorway yeaterday and it turns out the pipe to deliver the coolant to the engine burst, the engine overheated and seized up. The garage is saying that I may need to replace the engine. Had anyone any idea how much this might cost? They said it's 4 hours labour just to strip down the engine that's in it to see if it can be fixed, so that's going to cost over €300 before anything is done.

I recently sourced a diesel engine for a Ford Fiesta in Traynors for around €650. I'd try that.

    +1 Traynors in Armagh

Otherwise get the Book phone and ring all the scrap yards around the country and get the best deal
Google vauxhall parts as well. Place in the UK that specialises in VX Parts and Engines.

Just learn to use this... its way cheaper

But seriously you should be able to pick up a decent engine up north... 400-700 if your lucky plus all the labour costs as you outlined....

common enough car, plenty of breakers will have engines, but traynors in the north are your best bet.

There is none in the car and there's no need to be a ****ing smartass about it.

Got a quote of €5000 form the Opel garage it's in just now.

For god's sake don't buy an engine from Opel, they're massively into ripping people off. €300 for a basic service!

Ya god take it out of a main dealer first of all. Just get a normal garage to do it.
