Safe down Whitworth rd?

    Hi,

    Just looking for advice from anyone living in the Drumcondra area.

    Looking for accommodation along Whitworth rd. Its a good but down near Claude/ Wigan rd.

    Just wondering if it's a safe area? Doesnt seem to have many street lights once you come off Whitworth road.

    Basically, is it safe for a girl to be walking down there on her own come the dark evenings in Winter??

    Safe area. Never heard of any trouble on or off that road.

    The road is completely safe,its full of traffic night and day so not as lonely as it looks.
    DO however,avoid walking by yourself along the canal there,there can be unsavoury types hanging around drinking and the occasional mugging has been known.
    Apart from that its fine.

    My grandad lives there. It's a really safe area, he's never had any problems. I 'd echo the note of caution about the canal, it is safe during the day but stay away at night. Overall the area is really close to town and near phibsborough and drumcondra. Good location

    Very nice area and particularly quiet and safe. Lot of older people living there mixed with some younger couples. Claude Road/David Road and Whitworth Road itself are good areas with great transport links and proximity to Phibsboro, Harts Corner and City Centre are major plusses.

    Obviously the Canal can get some unsavory characters but it's not as bad as it once was and is fully lit now at night time. I'd avoid if you are a female walking on your own at night time purely from a common sense point of view not because you are very likely to have hassle.
