Haven't managed over 2 Mbps at any time so far this week, but just now this is rediculous:

    Other routes seem normal though:

There could be any number of factors effecting the speed test to a location as remote as the USA, not just UPC. Doing a speed test to a location that far away is largely meaningless.

Oh certainly its not a UPC issue in Ireland. The Chicago thing could even just be the speedtest server itself in Chicago.

But in general whats the average max speed UPC users get from the US?

lol, better results to the states than to Digiweb's Speedtest server. Is it getting hammered?

I'm with the eircom rat for my sins.

    Where?

My ISP is Digiweb. None of the tests here on this thread are against a Digiweb Server.

speedtest.net is largely useless over that sort of distance for judging download speed.

do you actually have an issue with downloading stuff from the US or are you just seeing an issue because speedtest isn't working the way you think it should?

pick several different US based mirrors and try downloading a bunch of ubuntu ISO's at the same time and see what your speed is like. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mirrors

i just tried it myself and didn't have any trouble topping out my connection once i had a few on the go.

i use a firefox plugin called downthemall! which i'm sure helped speed them up, but the speed was obviously there to give so it's not exactly cheating.
