A few hints in the Yahoo! statement about fees not being "TV" level IIRC. #andamovie

For some reason I thought she was with Martin Starr.

I came in here hoping for news on a movie and instead I get this. It's like walking into a birthday party but instead of yelling surprise everyone lines up to take it in turns to kick you in the balls.

Wait... that's not how birthday parties are meant to go? Explains why everyone always came to my party (even people I hadn't invited) yet no-one ever invited me to theirs...

It came out in the Fappening that they were together.

All I've taken from these sudden updates to the thread is that Dave Franco has the largest eyebrows I've seen outside of a Spitting Image puppet :D

Presumably IvaBigWun is off somewhere weeping into his Alison Brie scrapbook collection; from previous posts & gifs he always seemed like her biggest fan ;)

I think they were at one point, because I thought the same thing. Martin Starr is a legend (he was Bill Haverchuck for christsakes), she should've stayed with him...

So I wouldn't hold out hope of a 7th season; who'd have thought it eh: a show nobody watched the first time around couldn't make much money for a service nobody watched. Though I wonder whether Yahoo's eager chequebooks trumped a 'proper' service like Netflix getting their hands on the Community licence.

Dan Harmon live tweeted while watching a porn version of community

    http://www.avclub.com/article/dan-harmon-gloriously-live-tweets-community-porn-p-227032

Link is safe for work. The real kicker is that Hustler who made/started the porno abandoned it after they realised that not enough people knew about community to spoof it. Its kinda prophetic, yahoo should have heeded the porn world

Dan Hamon seems to have gone off the tracks a little.

He has always been a little out there. For anyone who really likes the show, I would recommend the dvds with directors commentary and Featurettes. You get to see his vision which often isnt in the finished episodes and his failures. he is very honest and funny. He is often harder on himself when people like something he didnt intend or when people dont get the joke he did intend.

It aired on Sony TV a night after it was released online. That's how I watched it, but you may not have sky

 Wow, I skimmed over the 20th. Didnt have the stamina or appetite to read them all. He needs to get off twitter and stop interacting directly with fans/social media. He does address some of his tumblr/reddit critics in the directors commentary.

He seems like the type of person who you have to seperate the art from the artist

About a week earlier he announced he was getting divorced from his wife (who played Gareth's cousin that he married). So in fairness while it seems the split was fairly amicable, he's probably going through a rough spot right now.

They could do an hour and a half version of remedial chaos theory (the one with the dice and who has to get the pizza)
    I would not be disappointed

The momentum has gone, I would agree.

They would have to create a film that would not only appeal to the traditional fans, but could also stand alone. Without this I am not sure that this project would be viable.

They should just let it die, what I saw of series 6 was beyond bad and at this stage I can't see a Movie being anything else than a cheap made for streaming service quickie.

Just a little bump on this. The Russo Brothers tweeted a little audio clip of Troy and Abed over the weekend, feeding speculation that a movie is in the works.

Now it might be for something completely different, but we live in hope. :)

At least now we know they'll definitely get asked about a Community movie.

FYI all 6 seasons are available on All4 if anyone fancied a rewatch.

I said it 10 posts up, 3 years, 3 days ago(!) and I'll say it again: Community's moment is gone; the cast has moved on, got older & while you could probably rattle together a boilerplate plot seen in a 1000 other scripts (the gang get back together to stop the college from shutting down for good!) it could only hope to live in the shadow of the show's best years. Season 6 was already that kind of limp, lukewarm coda nobody needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,294 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah, I enjoyed bits of Season 6, but not enough of it to warrant any desire for a movie. For the most part, Community was the perfect show at the perfect time, but that time has passed.

    Get Donald Glover back
Everyone commits, i.e. No greenscreen for scheduling conflicts
Dan Harmon 100% involvement and full creative control.

Check these three boxes and I'd be all over this.

I dunno, Harmon wrote Season 6 and it wasn't much cop; remembering episodes like the Chang-as-minor-celebrity episode, that was just yeeeesh. Though to be fair to him, its main problem was simply losing too many of the original cast.

Season 5 just about pulled it off, with Jonathan Banks being an able replacement to Chevy Chase, but Glover & Yvette-Nicole Brown departing was too much for the story to bare.

True, Season 6 was a mess. They lost Glover, Chevy Chase and Yvette Nicole Brown. That was half of the original study group. I think S6 was also produced by Yahoo which was strange. It should never have been made. But Harmons work on Rick and Morty shows he still has some ability as a comedy writer, If you give him a shot with the OG Community cast, and maybe work Chevy Chase in somehow, and you get the scheduling right, I think this could have some potential. The only reservation I'd have is that I'm not too sure how this would actually translate to a movie.

I don't think they would work with Chase again

Anyone else doing this as a bedtime distraction from the global chaos?

I loved this show on first viewing but I'm finding it lacking a bit this time, I think this is down to:
    • I'm older than I was in 2010 when I first saw this show and tastes change, and
    • Fawlty Towers aside, Comedies don't age as well as Dramas
I'll stick with the rewatch for now with an episode a night but might abandon it in favour of acclaimed Dramas I've yet to watch more than a season of.

    Namely Westworld and The Wire

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,550 ✭✭✭ShineOn7

PS: as much as a younger me's hormones fancied Alison Brie in the show, on second viewing it's striking how gorgeous Gillian Jacobs was in 2009

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I rewatched the last time it was on Netflix, and honestly? On second watching Season 4 isn't half as bad as people made it out to be. It definitely got WAY too goofy at the start, while the finale was pretty awful - but most of it was good & I laughed plenty.

Season 4 was the one where Harmon was fired right?

I'd agree. There were some good laughs to be had in S4. Harmon kinda lost the run of himself towards the end of S3.

That's said S5 was a welcome return to form even with the departures. Really enjoyed it. S6 was a dud altogether.

Community had some very high highs but from what I remember they were the exception rather than the rule.

The first season they didn't really know what they were doing.

Latter seasons were a mess for various reasons.

I wouldn't mind condensing a rewatch from some collated top 10 episodes or something along those lines.

Correct: Harmon left in a storm IIRC. I wanna say there was some chatter about workplace bullying too, but that may have been Rick & Morty.

Yeah, Season 3 as it went on was arguably the most indulgent season. Season 6 was so bad I had many moments of "what were they thinking??". I suspect Yahoo wrote a blank cheque and Harmon went "why not?"

That's a bit harsh, for anyone watching it for the first time it should be a strong show

On this rewatch though I'm struggling to get through Season One. It was one of the weakest

I loved Community back in the day. Thought it should had ended with Season 3. Found 4 awful and 5/6 hit and miss. I'm rewatching the show for the first time in years with my GF (Who didn't watch it at the time) and she loves it. I have forgotten how good it was. I cherry-picked the best ones from Season 1 as it's a bit rocky, were almost through season 2. Season 3 was my favourite one (Suprised by the negative comments for it here).

The show trending on Netflix, it's nice to see a new generation get in it.
It was never shown on T.V. here so it doesn't have the same fanbase as Friends.
I always thought Netflix would put in the money for the film, there were into that at the time (Arrested Development) and most of the cast ended up working on Netflix shows. Hopefully a buzz will get going for it again, but Dan so busy with Rick & Morty, I doubt it will happen.
