Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

RTE Reshuffle

By what I can gather, RTE will be reshuffling their radio schedule tomorrow. This also includes 2fm. I wonder what will be done? 2fm needs a major revamp anyways. A good show from 10-12pm is needed where you can have the craic, some talk, slagging and still have good music. There hasn't been anything good on from that time since Ray Foley.

The boy over at radiowaves know nothing for sure, John Creedon to get the move he wants, Dave Fanning to be axed are suggestions.

    Interesting... wonder who's going where?

Creedon will probably get the 1900-2000 slot.

Comes across as a very smug individual to me, couldn't take a lot of him.

Maybe he will be presenting a rap show?

I've heard nothing about a reshuffle. Usually these things are released far in advance. Tubridy has been promoted in all of the last reshuffles, so I am never too happy with them anyway. What is your source for this?

Looks like Drivetime is being extrended to 7 pm sport 7-8pm then Creedon 8-10pm

Glad Drivetime is being extended, means I don't have to suffer Cahill on my way home from work, then can switch over to OTB.

'bout time. Absolute gent...what were they thinking relegating him to the graveyard shift?

I can't say I Like the look of that.

John Creedon - the power of bad reality TV to revitalise careers strikes again, however unmerited. I have no interest in listening to 2 hours of Musak.

Des Cahill to be given an extra half an hour.......why???

I doubt too many poeple will miss Dave Fanning's show however.

Des isnt getting an extra half hour. Fanning will be going back to 2fm.

John Clarke has stepped down as head of 2fm.

Are they dropping some of the specialist shows, dramas, etc that were on at night time if John Creedon is getting the 8-10pm slot?

That would be a major backward step in my opinion. 2fm needs to move forward not backward. That's like Steve Wright going back to BBC R1. He's outgrown 2fm.

Watch the reshuffle on Monday to 2fm. My humble guess is no major changes to peak time programmes such as breakfast and drive and of course G Ryan (at this stage). But maybe a few changes in personnel in the evening and maybe lunchtime will be looked at.

I find the 2fm schedule Mon-Fri very good, hoping there won't be sweeping changes. G Ryan should be cut to 2 hrs, and maybe cut Nikki Hayes back to 2 hrs or replace her altogether. Leave Will Leahy, Rick O'Shea alone and the Frequency is fine too.

One presenter I'd like to see more of is Jenny Huston. She's interesting to listen to and has far more cop-on than the likes of Nikki Hayes.

Based on what Dave F said to The Independent today I don't know whether it's a step backwards or forwards but maybe a step towards an older audience.

He said there now going for 25 -44 years - knida Today Fm.

I guess if there are to be any changes towards that direction, the new 2fm boss would be the one to implement them in a few months rather than monday.

I wonder will Alf McCarthy be left the late night 11:30-2AM slot on Radio 1? He's a class act. Far better than Creedon was at that hour and the music is great too. They have a new presenter, Carol Moran, replacing him atm while he's on holidays and, while she's grand, the music is a bit drab. Lillian Smyth is good too but IMHO she seems like the female corkonian equivalent of D4 Tubridy.

Wonder if Fanning is getting the Head gig at 2FM?

    Yes so says the rumourmill.

Wouldnt think so. Michael Cahill no doubt fancies himself for it. Aidan will probably get it though.

Michael Cahill... janey! Who's Aidan? Just actually realising it's been a hell of a long time since I listened to 2FM!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭brettmirl

    Aidan Leonard.

Hopefully Rick O'Shea gets a new producer who'll take the gag off him. He's much better when he gets to interact with listners.

Does anyone in radio especially 2fm not understand the meaning of past their 'sell-by date'?

    express this a bit more...

Cahill or Leonard would not be my first choice. I think they'll go outside the box for a new Boss. It's not another Today Fm we need its someone who's not afraid to make the changes.

The changes to the 2FM schedule are very minimal, just an hour of Fanning in the evening Mon-Fri. Ruth's on 8-10 and Damien Farrelly 10-12. Not exactly sweeping changes

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭Real FM

Thats because they said they're waiting until the new head of 2fm comes in before they make any major changes as they'll be based on their decisions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭Enigma'

Ah right, will have to wait till next year so.

I'd say you could put Ruth and Damien's wages together and it still wouldn't add up to dave's hourly rate.

A complete joke. And his quote in the paper about RTE brand not been pushed on 2fm listeners and its the likes of himself that will bring that brand to 2fm is another complete pile of bullsh1t.
If its one advertisement for RTE to the 20-34 year olds its switch over to Paul Mc Cloone on Today FM because that's excatly what I am doing at the moment and will continue to do.

I for one will miss John Creedon on Late Date. He had the right eclectic mix for that slot while I just don't think Alf sets the right pitch.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,034 ✭✭✭deadhead13

New radio 1 schedule starts this evening.

    Drivetime...4.30-7.00

    Sports at 7...7.00-7.30 Darragh Maloney

    Arena 7.30-8.30...Sean Rocks(great name)

    The John Creedon...Show 8.30-10.00

    Arts Tonight...10.00-11.00

    The Late Date...11.25 - 2.00 Alf MacCarthy

Sean Rocks is a decent presenter. I've heard some of his stuff before. It's a pity though that 'The Rolling Wave' is now on Sunday nights and Aine Hennessy has been sent backto TNaG so her trad show is gone. I like the rolling wave. Never got to listen to it much during the week when it was on and it's a great replacement but I think Aine's show did a lot of the coal face work in interviewing and publicising traditional musicians who mightn't have gotten much of a national airing otherwise. Obviously listening to an interview with some 'Johnny Mulcahy' lad from Leitrim who plays the accordian and released a new CD this week isn't the most exciting but I still feel it's very important. I don't see anything else R1 have at present replacing that. Pity.
