Fitting a kitchen shortly and looking for advice on worktops

Also the pros and cons if you have one fitted, ie did it wear well etc

Options :, granite, corian, colour glass, natural wood, formica, speedstone (BQ product)

It would be great if someone has price comparison info

    Thanks

The "best" counter tops are natural stone, corian and polished concrete- in terms of wear resistance, ease of cleaning and appearance. Wood is beautiful but requires regular maintenance and can stain relatively easily. Formica laminates are inexpensive but the good quality ones can look well, wear relatively well and are easy to maintain. The first three options are expensive, but a lifetime job. Wood is a lifestyle choice and formica a budget choice. If budget is a concern why not go for a cheaper product for your main counter and use a stone top on an island unit or near your hob- makes a good set down area for hot pots and is good for pastry making etc. All depends on your budget. If going for formica the most important thing to ensure is that the fitter adequately seals any cut edges (around sink/ cooker inserts etc) to prevent moisture take up.
