Neighbours star Eve Morey has set the record straight over her departure from the show, confirming that it wasn't her choice to leave.

Ever since word leaked out that Sonya Rebecchi would be bowing out from the Aussie soap, fans have assumed that Eve quit after nine years.

However, in a new chat with Digital Spy, Eve revealed that she was told early last year that her contract wouldn't be renewed beyond 2018.

The surprise decision came as part of big changes behind the scenes when Neighbours was renewed on its new multi-year deal. Eve went on to film her final scenes in December.

When we asked the all-important question of why she left Neighbours, Eve replied: "It was a decision made by the production. From what I understand, at the end of 2017, the show was at a point of: 'Is it going to go ahead, or is it not?'

"In the end it did, but there were going to have to be big changes and every department suffered that. When it comes to the cast, I was one of them.

"I'd come back from maternity leave and I wasn't doing as many episodes. I don't know if anyone even noticed, but I was doing two episodes per week rather than three, and taking more time out with the kids.

"I was thinking: 'This is great. It'd be good to do this, to do less'. But the producers had decided that they'd be finishing Sonya at the end of the year."

Eve was quick to insist that there were no hard feelings whatsoever between her and the show's team.

Yeah she was a very annoying character, it was only when she came back after last maternity leave that I thought that she’s getting more bearable, then they do this!! Was very quick death in the end.

Haven't watched today's episode yet but watching yesterday's on the sidelines of a football pitch wasn't my brightest idea. OMG the whole episode was so well done and I don't know how they did those emotional scenes. Toadie and Sonya were both fantastic, I was in bits.

I will be mad if Toadie is put with Andrea (fake Dee) or real Dee if she is alive

Imogen is returning to help Toadie's law firm and I think for Piper's exit, she discovers Piper and Leo's fling

I wouldn't be surprised if Chloe tried to kill her brother Mark so she could have Elly, she does not care he is missing

She deserved that slap from her mother. What a selfish wagon. Elly is a royal pain in the backside. It was all Marks fault that she slept with Chloe :rolleyes:

Both Elly and her sister Bea are annoying and so is Chloe, if only Finn could kill them all

Just been catching up on a shedload of Neighbours there over the weekend.

The Sonya and Toadie two-hander and her death scene and the aftermath back on the street was really really well done.

I think Finn got kidnapped at some stage but I'm not sure!

Finn and Sean were kidnapped, their parents blamed Finn for the abduction ( I have no idea why) so they only paid Sean’s ransom and Finn was held captive for another 6 months until he was freed by military (I think)

I like Chloe and Elly most of the time, Imogen is ok in small doses but really can’t stand Bea.
