Sachin Joab will be leaving the soap at the end of his current contract.

The actor, who plays Ajay Kapoor, is to bow out on screen later this year but further details have yet to be disclosed.

Ajay's exit was revealed in Australian publication The Reporter, which states that Joab is heading to Los Angeles to look for other career opportunities.

Menik Gooneratne, who plays Ajay's wife Priya, has also left Neighbours and is thought to have already filmed her exit scenes.

Neighbours' explosion to get 10pm screening on Channel 5

Neighbours' dramatic explosion episodes will get a special 10pm screening on Channel 5 next month.

The station's bosses are celebrating one of the show's biggest ever storylines by giving Neighbours the after-dark outing on Tuesday, April 16.

UK fans see disaster strike in Erinsborough next month as fan favourite Jarrod 'Toadie' Rebecchi ties the knot with Sonya Mitchell.

The couple's big day goes tragically wrong as a gas bottle explodes at the reception, causing the wedding marquee to collapse. In the ensuing chaos, two regular characters lose their lives.

Channel 5 will still air the explosion in Neighbours' usual 1.45pm and 5.30pm slots on April 16. At 10pm, an hour-long screening will give viewers another chance to see the blast and a first look at Wednesday's tragic aftermath episode.

By giving Neighbours the bonus slot, network chiefs will be hoping to hook in new and returning viewers as the wedding day disaster provides a natural point to start watching.

Channel 5 has worked closely with Neighbours' production company Fremantle over the past 12 months to help enhance the show in its 28th year.

As well as introducing new sets and new families, the soap's team have aimed to provide pacier storylines and improved production values on screen.

Fans have recently seen the return of Sarah Beaumont (Nicola Charles) and the arrival of the Turner clan,

while Steph Scully (Carla Bonner) and Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) will also be heading back to Ramsay Street for guest stints later in the year.

Really enjoying Neighbours at the moment. I thought Sarahs return worked well and it's great to see Karl and Susan back together, hard to believe they have been married three times. The Priya affair has done wonders for the Kapoors, they haven't had that many big stories since their arrival.

Looking forward to those returning stars. I wonder will we ever see Libby Kennedy return? She has been gone for ages at this point.

I liked what what they did at start of the 1Opm Showing, I like they caught everyone who how some stories started and I can't believe They showed Todie and Dee crashing into lake again but it was very nice start.

The rest of episoed was good but I wish there was we sure more of explosion, i think the break came on to quick, then ending I saw coming but I Love it how they try to trick you.

A lot of departures in the last 2/3 weeks. 2 deaths and 3 of the kids moved on during the week. Love the way the Aussies can move on so quick, in less than 24hrs they are of travelling round the world, no visa problems down under.

Still the last few weeks have been good.

Steph Scully will resort to underhand measures as she attempts to split up Lucas Fitzgerald and Vanessa Villante.

Steph strikes gold when she discovers a secret about her love rival's past and uses it to ensure that Lucas (Scott Major) calls off his plans to marry Vanessa (Alin Sumarwata).

Upcoming Neighbours episodes see Steph do some digging into Vanessa's background, as she is determined to reunite with Lucas herself. In doing so, she learns that Vanessa was once married to a guy named Alek Poccoli.

Realising that Lucas has no idea about this, Steph sneakily exposes the secret by setting up a fake Facebook profile as Alek and sending Lucas a message.

When Lucas finds out the truth, he can't believe that Vanessa (Alin Sumarwata) kept it a secret and declares that their own wedding is off.

Carla Bonner, who plays Steph, told TV Week: "Steph thinks Lucas calling it off is proof of their instability. If they were tight enough then none of this would actually matter or cause turbulence, but she's seen first-hand how this can derail them."

Steph is now back on screen in Australia and reappears on Channel 5 in the UK from Monday, May 13.

Her return storyline is expected to explore mental health issues as Steph's behaviour becomes increasingly erratic following her release from jail.

Ah Mason and Kate, so cute together!!! They look great together, I hope it works out for them but think someone from her past might show up according to digital spy and a couple of exits too....Mason seems like a nice guy and cute too. It was so funny there the other day with them Neighbours haven't been much of a laugh recently but got a few giggles from weds episode!

That new girl rihannan is a class act she comes out with great lines.

Kyle and georgia might be on the cards who knows!

Vanessa is a bit of a head wrecker and what's with the dresses she constantly wears. Has she ever heard of trousers or skirts!

Ah it was Pauls house! Couldn't figure out what house it was. Big restyle done on it. Back yard/garden looks gorgeous. Oh to have an outside space like that with the weather to go with it. We can only dream.

Don't like Steph. She was annoying before now she's worse. I love her hair though.

Dr Karl is a superdoc, from tiny sick little babies to cancer patients, to eye doc to looking after the loopy Steph.

Mason has been acting like the spoilt teenager that he is past few episodes. Do not see what Kate sees in him. But suppose she likes teenagers after the other schoolboy she was with. Can't remember his name. Brennan would have been a much better choice for her.

The other day when the new boy(don't know his name but Brads son ) was doing sit ups in the park and he just whipped his top off and started competing with him doing them, I thought that was absolutely ridiculous!! He's one of the worst actors in neighbours! As for Brennan, he is gorgeous!!
