Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi,
im a newbie and am building my first home cinema / tv set up
ive taken some good advice of here already , but im getting stumped.

I have a samsung 7020 led tv and bdp 3600 blu ray on the way

and was planning on getting the mordaunt short Avant Premiere speakers

im stuck on a few things , and very green to all this .

id like a future proof AV receiver , and was thinking of the
Onkyo TX-SR577 7.1 set , but i only have room for 5.1 speakers - can it do 5.1 as well ?

    also

how do I connect the UPC tv decoder - it has no hdmi - it only has 2 scart sockets
( does this go to the tv ? )
and id like the sound to go via the AV receiver - but with no HDMI on the upc - would it be scart to tv for video and scart to AV for audio ?

finally - do the devices ordered come with hdmi cables or should i buy them ?

does everything then connect to the AV receiver via HDMI ( bar the UPC ) and then hdmi out from AV receiver to the tv ?

thanks if anyone can help .

7.1 is 5.1 with two extra channels so a 7.1 reciever will do 5.1.
Make sure the reciever you buy can accept audio over hdmi though.
The upc box has rgb scart sockets which will connect to your reciever for svideo or composite video. It should have an optical or coaxial output for audio though.
Generally you don't get decent cables with devices as cables are personal so users tend to buy aftermarket ones anyway.
So, yes, the way you are planning on connecting everything up sounds correct- bar the upc which is possible.
Download the manual for your potential recievers and read up how they work connecting things up. You'd better make sure video conversion to hdmi is supported and audio delay or lip sync is almost certainly required.
