There is a thread here which some people have feedback on the Gaiety.

Keep on eye on the forum, workshops arise occasionally.

No Drama Theatre kick off again on August 18th. Your first workshop with them is free to see if you like it.

I've two experiences with them - one good, one bad.

The bad one was about 5 years ago. I wanted to sign up for the intro to drama course. It was overbooked so they told to do the page for stage class. The first night I showed up, we were told there wasn't a room available in the Gaiety and we would be having the class in a room over in Parnell Square. The class was overcrowded and I stopped going after a few weeks. It was a bit too advanced for me and my nervous state.

Last April I decided to give it another go and it was a totally different experience. I signed up for the Intro to Drama class. It was a great starter class. The first few weeks were improv games, trust games - lots of things to loosen us up and give us a bit of confidence. The teacher pushed us but it wasn't too much. At the end, we had to do a monologue which scared the bejaysus out of me but was a great experience. About 22 people signed up for the class but there was never that amount there. I liked it so much that I'm going on to do a year course with them. Met some great people too. I think it was a good class even if you decide you don't want to pursue acting afterwards. One guy complained because he didn't like the amount of games we did. He wanted to work from a script more.

Hope this helped. The Abbey School is good also.

Hey guys – I attended both the intro to drama and page to stage classes at the Gaiety School (which actually i enjoyed a lot!) but now i was thinking to do an annual course. The Gaiety one is deadly expensive and there’s no way I can afford it, so I have been looking on the internet and I found a course (a lesson per week) at the Irish Academy of Dramatic Art (www.irishacad.com). Has anyone any feedback about that?

I have never attended either course and have heard mixed things about the Gaiety. Ive only heard good things about the Abbey.

Its alot of money to part so you could consider coming along to the Boards Drama group for a few weeks to see if Drama is your thing. We run workshops every week, your first week is free and its only €20 a month after that.

Cool where is it? Is it for beginners?
