    This is a simple self-portrait I shot in my bathroom, holding a mirror in one hand & the camera in the other, using the window as a light source. I like the photo , and could not have done it with any other lens ( except the 1.2, but the result with a 1.2 would not have been any different, really..)

    I had a 1.8 & upgraded to the 1.4. The 1.4 is a little softer at most apertures, but it focuses better, and it lets in sooo much light! It is my lens of choice for indoor portraits w natural light. I have no desire to go to a 1.2, even if it was accessible pricewise.

    I had a 70-300 IS till recently & it is a good lens, too - but you cannot really compare them, they get used for completely different things. I used the 70-300 for soccer photos, and It was excellent if the light was good. The 50 comes into its own in low light conditions where you are reasonably close to your subject.
