Other way round, I think :) Anyway, thanks.

A lot of what makes SeptemberFest great is that it's state-run. When private companies run events like this they'll either gouge the suppliers senseless or give the drinks concession to one company only. The exception is when the brewers themselves do it, as at the Franciscan Well at Easter or Hilden in August.

And, as I mentioned above, local craft beers aren't just for special events. They're available to drink all year round.

:-) Speaking of Franciscan Well, is their beer meant to be warmer than the other available beers? Or did their cooler break down? I tried the main Franciscan Well beer about midday and it was noticeably warmer than other beers, which in the hot weather didn't appeal to me as much.

It shouldn't have been warmer, and certainly not warmer than the cask beers. But I'm not aware of any cooler issues.

I just heard about it through the Dublin Event Guide weekly mail, meself :)

My understanding of it was that it was a specialist beer event, so I wasn't expecting to see so many kids and families there. Either it is going to develop as a niche festival for people who are interested in new beers or food products or a general family event (which is already well-catered for, IMHO)

I would be OK with paying a fee and getting some drink tokens, as previously suggested.

Oh my god not children and beer in the same place at the same time! What is wrong with having beer, food and families together?

    I know, shock horror, eh.:D
I just think there are plenty of other events in town that cater to families, that's all. Let us beer and cheese-lovers scoff away and make merry. :)

People with kids like beer and cheese too. I was on the homebrewing stand and many of the home brewers were there with their kids. I think they thought it was nice to have a beer event where kids were welcome. They weren't going mad obviously which added to the nice vibe of the event.

Also being a lady who loves beer I thought it was great to see lots of women trying beer. Too often beer is marketed as just for men and just for pubs. Which isn't true. I'm into making strange brews and matching beer with food and cooking with it.

Maybe if people start to associate beer with a relaxed, nice day out with the kids and good food then we might have a more sensible attitude to drinking in this country.

Oktoberfest has loads of family's and kids at it not to count some very lager beer gardens in Germany/Austria that would hold similar number to Septemberfest

The queues really were disastrous on Saturday. Hopefully the operation is a little bigger next year cos the way it was on saturday the whole thing was becoming farcical. I didnt get to try almost anything that I wanted to due to either the queues being too long or the brewers running out of beer. Had a great day all the same.

Here is a video of the Classic Beatles performance of All My Loving on Sunday at the Septemberfest.

Anybody know if this will be on again this September? A google returns zero results.

It won't be. They decided to incorporate it into Bloom back in June instead, sadly.

Thanks. I haven't a clue what their logic is given how busy (too busy, in fact) Septemberfest was last year. This is a disappointing decision. Deveney's doesn't seem like much of an alternative at those prices.

I was at Bloom and for the brewery it was an unmitigated failure.

All the tents bar theirs were full. They were away from the rest and were empty.

Also, the type of people who would go to both festivals is completely different. You would get an older sort of person going to bloom who would be a lot less likely to want to buy beers then at Septemberfest.

    Terrible decision.

That was insane. I wouldn't go to Bloom in a fit. Was there any advertising at all for the beer part?

The beer tent was on the maps and fliers and mentioned in the publicity. It was very poorly positioned, however: roped off in a distant corner away from the food and entertainment.

Anyone complain to Bord Bia about lumping Septemberfest in with Bloom this year?
