Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, we are 6 months in our new house and have noticed that the esb bills seem rather high. We have a 9000litre rainwater harvesting tank. Have discovered that the water in the tank is quite warm. Would this be because of the pump? surely the pump should not be heating the water to such an extent? Am concerned that it is using a lot of energy and hence the esb bills. Any advice welcome! thanks.

you are pretty sparse with details of the set up: above below ground etc etc: what actual temp is it?

Any chance that the HW cylinder is siphoning/lopping back to it.

If the wiring allows it u could put a gizmo on the power cable to the pump and see what it is using

My knowlege is poor on harvesting I must read more but a couple of logical assumptions I would assum to min on energy consumption.

    1. The pump has a flow switch so it only kicks in when the water reaches a certain height and cut out when it drops a certain level.

    2. The pump does not pressure hunt. IE. it is not relying on a pressure build up to shut it off.

Surly the usuage from the consumption can be worked out per day

Do you have a geothermal system in the house?

Hi again, no we don't have a geothermal system - we have a pellet boiler. The tank is concrete and buried in the ground. Someone else has suggested it might be the temp from the ground warming the water. There is also a humming noise from the tank when you go near/lift the lid- is this the norm or does it indicate that the pump is running constantly? (sorry not too knowledgable about these things!) Thanks,

You've got a pump in the underground tank which leads to the attic tank, I assume?
Or do you have no tank in the attic and the 'grey water' system is piped directly from the underground tank?
Either way, the pump should only be on intermittantly, unless you also have a UV filter and buffer tank...
