I was about to report cantersj52 but see that he now has no items for sale. Don't you just love how the consumer/legitimate seller has to police eBay instead of the company. This trader was a blatant scam artist - keep posting if you spot anymore of them!

I've just cleared my cache and checked him again and he still seems alive and selling?

Don't get it, when you search for cantersj52 on eBay now you get this seller as an exact match (!) for sellers name
getyourbargainshere456436 - the same seller without doubt and still active and happily scamming away!! I will report this xxxxxxer!! now.

Just reported him for all the use it will be. Grrrr, I just detest eBay!!!!!

It was a recent (or last minute) name change, but gone now. I just tried to buy and item and got a msg Transaction Blocked.

Edit> Suspect the seller reads these threads, any Mod might be interested to check the subsciption list for this thread as I guess he might just be there ;) but not much you can do even if he is.

    The scam continues........

If you check the feedback of cantersj52 or getyourbarginshere456436 you'll see ALL the feedback is now set to private for all the other shill buyers, so he's protecting his "assets" for future scams.

List of those names to follow when I've edited it .....

Edit> Sorry got that wrong all the shill buyers had their feedback already set to private but list of them in case the seller sets his feedback to private.....

Listed not because anyone can do much about it but more just to annoy the scammer and make him a bit more work if he's reading this.

I think it unlikely that eBay did anything as a direct result of one report. IMHO these scams are run at the weekend because there are less people working for eBay so less chance of any action. I've reported 100's if not thousands of scams before and I noticed a definite trend in that any reports that were actioned were actioned on Monday. Some more obvious scams that got negative feedback like this one have had action taken against them over the weekend. I have an idea that the trigger might be going below 98% + feedback, it doesn't mean the account will be banned just that there is a flag raised in a database somewhere that says this needs looking at, add a couple of reports to that and then some action seems to get taken.

How did ebay allow another seller (getyourbargainshere456436) to take over the same listings with the same item numbers and keep selling after the first "seller" (cantersj52) was reported. I think ebay are falling asunder.

No that was the same person and the same auctions. The seller changed his name as he is allowed to according to eBay rules. The eBay system is a massive database(s) it doesn't really care what you are called and can allow a seller (or buyers) ID to be changed anytime. If you check the seller getyourbargainshere456436 you will see a name change in the last 30 days icon by the name that allows you to check what other name he has used. If you search for the old name you will be directed to the new name. Only really confusing to someone new to eBay and probably why the seller changed names.

eBay would tie up the two names so if you reported cantersj52 then they'd know the seller was now calling himslef getyourbargainshere456436 it would only be buyers he might confuse.

    Nearly....

Just seen items 180405423478 and 180405423462 both laptops at 54euro, baliffs sale ;) appear and disappear in the time it took to click on them.

This listing (180405423462) has been removed, or this item is not available.

This listing (180405423478) has been removed, or this item is not available.

Wasn't lookiing for plamsa TV's but guess a couple of them would have also been for sale.

So someone at eBay is taking an interest. Now leave it a couple of weeks and it will start all over again.

You sent posts from a message board to PayPal? That will be taken seriously alright. What sensitive PayPal information have you included?

I'm sure they'll have a good laugh. Why would you use screen shots? Why not just send a link to this thread? There's nothing here worth noting, so I don't see how anyone would be in the least bit interested in this, from a reporting employee's action point of view.

Got caught too. Opened a claim straight-away with Paypal and have told bank to withold payment. However, seems that the type of auction is not allowed on e-bay anyway - their rules...

A digital item is a computer file or special information that you can access online or have delivered electronically. Digitally delivered goods and items which are transferred electronically are not permitted on eBay. Some examples of digital items are:

    Electronic books or ebooks

    Digital pictures

    Other electronic documents

Domain names and tickets which may be transferred electronically are excluded and may be traded on eBay.

Hello, I got a strange email from Ebay, have a look, I've removed my email address because I think the scammers keep an eye on this topic to learn if there are better scams they can learn. This email adds to the fairytale, there are now good scammers and bad scammers. This does not explain the folllowing: I "asked Seller a Question" at 00:52 on the Acer Laptop listing(Is This an intangable laptop); of course, I did not get a reply and of course I had no intention of buying it either inside or outside of ebay. I reported cantorsj52 and some of the items he had listed with no notice of them being a list/ebook or whatever they were supposed to be, at 01:20 on Sunday morning. The scam was not finally removed until after 12 on Sunday and just after he had collected 2 negative feedbacks, the email from ebay seems to be more worried about people buying outside of ebay and doing them out of final value fees than the buyers being sold scam items. What I wonder now is, has getyourbargainshere456436 been restored to full scam membership or will someone swipe his illegal listings and his feedbacks and be able to strike again.

@ patt1616 and RE: your recent email from eBay.

All that email does is prove that eBay DON'T HAVE A CLUE it is about another type of scam.

Account hijacking used to be how many scammers worked but ebay may have made that more difficult so now the scammers are back to the old method of creating feedback for themselves rather than stealing an old account with good feedback.

These current scams are nothing to do with account hijacking as it is quite obvious that the seller created the account and all the feedback that went with it, even the name of the account(s) suggest the account was set up with the sole purpose of scamming. So getyourbargainshere456436 will not get the account restored if he does eBay have screwed up yet again.

I suspect eBay have a std set of template emails to send out and this was the nearest fit.

To hijack an account you either set up an eBay look alike site and get users to put in there username and password or just randomly try accounts and password combinations, many users use very week passwords, add to that the password for eBay, PayPal and their email could easily be the same so it can be very easy to take over an account. eBay did say they had put measures in place to try and stop that sort of thing but I'm not sure if they did?

I'm sure the scammers check in here to see whats going on but even if someone does reveal a better way to scam its better out in the open then buyers will know what to look out for.

tbh most of the scams are very amature, there have been a couple of good ones I've watched (and reported) this year but they were a class above these particular scams.

Edit> Just checked and I see that getyourbargainshere456436 has his feedback set to private and is no longer a registered use.

I really would like to know who is setting the feedback to private? It could be the user before eBay shuts him down to protect his other accounts (thats why I listed them previously) or it could be eBay to protect themselves by hiding the negative feedback that shows them up.

Thats great to hear. Was there any discussion with PayPal about this item being intangable? Also for the record who was the seller.

Perhaps PayPal take some notice of the press they get and act accordingly - though I doubt it.

Got my 54 euro back from Mastercard as a chargeback, they got it back from Paypal. You see when you do not get the item and in any case, I did not know the item was intangable when I bought thought I bought it, then Mastercard will refund. Have a look at Paypals last ditch attempt to try and get me to cancel th chargeback

The best idea seems to be to give Paypal a credit card , rather than a debit card, so the credit card company will give the refund that Paypal is supposed to give when something goes wrong, but then would it not be better to just use the credit card and forget about Paypal, they are only another link in a chain

Have just had the reverse of a scam, we'll call it a "macs",bought a software CD and paid by paypal on 3rd November, speedy ebay sent me the following MC015 Message five days later, (this is an extract). But I received the item and its ok, except it was a bit slow in coming and it had no bit of hardware with it. Ebay seem to be still more worried about people completing the transaction outside of ebay than a speedy response to a dodgy seller.

We're writing to let you know that the listing for the following item you bid on has been removed:

170402176623 - NERO 8 ESSENTIALS FREE POSTAGE £4.95 CHEAPEST ON EBAY!

We strongly recommend that you do not complete this purchase. Purchases of items listed on eBay but then completed outside of eBay are extremely risky. They are not covered by eBay buyer protection programs and are highly susceptible to fraud.

For more information on offers to buy or sell outside of eBay, copy this link into a new browser window:

***If You Have Already Paid Using PayPal***

If you have already paid for this item but have not received it, please remember these important steps:

    • A buyer has 45 days after the date of the payment to open a dispute.

    • A dispute can be escalated to a claim within 20 days from when the dispute was filed.

    • Buyers must wait at least 10 days from the date of payment to escalate a dispute for an item not received.

Sorry for digging this up but the brother in law has just bought one of these 42 inch lcd with smoke glass table for 54 euro :D .... or so he thought. he has not paid for it yet with paypal so whats the situation re negative feedback on behalf of the seller or will ebay just cancel it if he reports it ? ..... again as listed earlier in this post the auction or sale takes place on the weekend supposedly when no ebay staff on duty. On another note I had to contact ebay re a sale I had a while back..... still waiting on a reply to 2 emails i sent them and that was 3 weeks ago..... the worst customer service ever.

Edit ..... Alan it was more than likely auction sniper. I use it myself and find it very good.

Not to worry about not paying, the listing will be well gone from ebay, that is when they eventually wake up. I think there is a way of curing this. Suppose, if all the buyers were registered with paypal and using a credit card to pay paypal, then we could all buy thousands of each item, pay with paypal and when Paypal refuse a refund when you do not get the items because they say they are intangable (and should not be listed on ebay anyway); then we can get our money back as a chargeback on the credit card and paypal will be left holding the baby after they have paid out to the scammer. I assume that the credit card company gets their money back from paypal. Now since paypal are owned by ebay; ebay might wake up then and police the listings at the weekend. The same old warehouse full of empty boxes are in the new listings, so they should be easy enough to spot for someone in ebay; provided they are actually there at the weekend and are awake. There is another cure for this and that is for all the questions under the "ask the seller a question" to appear on the listing.

I see he had a lot of cork keyrings for sale (I mean ones made of cork, but in the shape of a football). I was chasing his feedbacks, and even came across one "feedbacker" who was so looking forward to his tv, that he was giving a positive feedback before he even got it (and the chances of him getting it are nil). I came across "uk-yacht-rigging-and-supplies" mixed in in the item feedbacks, but I tried and could not find it again. Did anyone else come across this? When I report a scam on ebay, I notice that its the .co.uk site which answers. Is there nobody at home in ebay.ie at the weekend. Had another bit of a scam during the week: bought an item from the uk after first agreeing a price for the P&P (£15),using Royal Mail and the seller came back 2 days later looking for an extra £5 or £30 for carrier. Not sure if he meant £15 extra or £30 extra for the carrier, but I opted for the fiver, hadn't much choice. Is there much of this going on? I also notice vastly different P&P charges for the same item from different sellers.

I find that sometimes, the auction can close off about 30 seconds before its time. I have been caught a few times that way. The speed and quality of your internet connection can let you down as well, especially if you are on 3 midband if the connetion goes asleep

What I don't get is how theses selllers can operate for so long.
Like the guy there WalshAssociates operating since the 22nd October (looks like his account was closed last night) sold hundreds of different items.

So firstly why wasnt the account closed quicker?
Why was there no negative feedback?
How come Paypal cannot freeze his funds?

It really annoys me that people like this can operate for so long. I know the buyers are just as stupid but still.
