We're back in action at long last.

Glen Johnson's Premier League debut for us. The first game without Alonso. A lot to look out for, and a lot to expect from the likes of Torres and Gerrard.

Meanwhile for Tottenham, they've gained ex-Pool striker Peter Crouch, and a good defender in Seb Bassong. Will Robbie Keane start against his old club?

I predict a 0-2 scoreline, it'll be a tough game and Spurs will be difficult to break down - but can see the quality of Torres and Gerrard prevailing with a goal each.
    Reina
    Johnson Skrtel Carragher Insua
    Alonso Lucas Mascherano
    Kuyt Gerrard Benayoun
    Torres
    Take it away folks.

Not predicting a score but i am looking forward to watching an exellent game of football.

Oh, and Robbie Keane to score :p

really can't wait for this game.
The only real selection question from a Liverpool point of view is Gerrard/Riera, depending on the former's fitness.
Benayoun, based on his end of season form, is our number one for the left side. He just can't be left out at the moment. If Gerrard's out Benny will go central with Riera coming in on the left.
The rest of the team picks itself

    Reina

    Johnson
    Carragher
    Skrtel
    Insua

    Mascherano---Lucas

    Kuyt
    Gerrard
    Benayoun---

    Torres

That team should be good enough. 2-1 or 3-1 to Pool i think

Hardly a major doubt - he should start. If he's anyway unfit he'll be taken off after dixty minutes.

Not as confident as I'd like to be for the opening match. Defoe looked sharp for England in midweek, we've the 2 ex-Pool boys to contend with, and it's away... Wouldn't be too disappointed with a decent performance and a score draw.

Spurs , always a tricky game , hope we dont see Lucas in Midfield :(

Liverpool will win it 2-1. Should be comfortable in the end for them.

I'm expecting a crakcer out of this for some reason. 3-3 imo.

there will be goals anyway, liverpool slightly off the pace pre-season, head says it will be a score draw, at least 1-1. liverpool deserve some luck from last years match alright though.

That could be said about a few fixtures at this stage:pac:

I'm expecting a couple of home wins today after the away win party yesterday. 1-0 Tottingham.

It's possible Keano might be playing deeper this season. I'd expect him to start.

What a dodgy game to begin with, the only fixture this year that we lost last year! (Boro also beat us but they're no longer around)

I'd expect it to be tough, we haven't looked especially sharp in any pre-season game. I say we might sneak a 1-0.

Spurs are a decent team and have a good home record.
Still fancy Liverpool to win this by a goal.
    I`ll go for 1-2.

Liverpool to win 2-1 or 3-2 with goals from Riera,Torres and Gerrard and for Spurs from Modric and Crouch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

There shouldn't be many goals in this game we're very good defensively at home especially when king plays. It will be intresting tho harry could sacrifice some of the protection given to the back 4 if he plays three up front.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

I'll presume Gerrard fit enough to start.

    Riera
    Johnson--Carra---Skrtel--Insua
    Masch
    Lucas
    Kuyt
    Gerrard
    Riena
    Torres

    Subs :GK-Kelly-Plessis-Spearing-Yossi-Babel-Voronin.

Jesus h. Get used to it. Lucas will be starting for the next month. Cheer him on, you might feel better being a bit positive.

my advise would be to get used to it, there will be alot of Lucas this season, and he shall be dynamite.

So who will get the nod Riera or Benny or both? With Gerard a doubt Benny could slot in also...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,785 ✭✭✭killwill

I reckon Spurs will get an early goal but Liverpool to get the win in the end. 2-1 if not 3-1.

Interesting tactical ploy. I don't think Redknapp will be ready for Pepe on the left of midfield :).

I think 10 of the Liverpool team are nailed on starters. The only question being Benayoun, Babel or Riera on the left of midfield. Based on last season I'd start with Benayoun.

I'm going to go for a 0:1 win with Gerrard scoring. I hope the Liverpool players remember the way that they somehow contrived to lose the corresponding fixture last year and mark a bit tighter in the last 5 minutes this time. At least David Bentley won't be around ;).

should be an interesting game, Liverpool if they pick up on the open game play from last season should do well. Spurs at home will always be tough though.

    1-2 LFC Win

Spurs are a decent team and have a good home record.
and beat liverpool twice at WHL last year too

Anyone know for defo if stevies fit to play ? Or is it all fun and games?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,983 ✭✭✭leninbenjamin

    I'll go for draw.

It'll be interesting game. Will Pool require much adjustment having lost the passing range of Alonso, or can Lucas finally live up to the hype he generated in his home country? And can Redknapp finally fix Spuds leaky defence this season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,107 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Based on his form for Spain, i hope Riera starts with Yossi given 30mins to impact for any of the 3 behind Torres (whoever is playing the worst, tiredest)

Not only do i find it weird, i also find it disgusting!!! Delighted to see him miss a one on one!!!!!

I'm gonna go for a one all draw here today, but without tempting fate, by looking at the two teams i think Liverpool can sneak the three points!
