Poor display today, yossi should have been on since the start. I was afraid of a hangover from performing so well last season, I hope this is only a blip and we can move on from here.

    Get in there Spurs :)

They look a very impressive side. Palacios looks the business to me.

Gwan lucas - one of the only performers today with johnson and reina and benayoun.

lucas did what he needed to do every time he was called upon, but he never stepped up and took control of the game he was too happy to wait to be passed to rather than call for it and make a forward run or try a killer pass. needs to play with more confidence and want to get on the ball more.

Don't think so? Too many ordinary player, imo.

Let's just all come out and say it. Lucas was awful today. But so were about 8 or 9 others, and we're kidding ourselves and have short memories if you think Alonso would have made much difference today. Second best all over the field.

United Win, Pool lose - great weekend!

Well FCUK that anyway...no more than we deserved tho unfortunately...LOL at Babel starting ahead of Yossi...himself and Johnson were the only decent performances in a red shirt (and Reina of course but he was wearing yellow). Gutted, but hopefully Padraig Harrington will make it a good end to the day!

Man, that was all Lucas' fault, terrible individual performance that cost us everything, meh, 37 games left and all that, probably need to buy someone though, pity there's no money.

LOL I love fans one sided view, yes the shoulder could have been a peno for Pool, but about a minute before that Carragher clearly pushed Crouch which could also have been a peno.

Liverpool need to buy a winger Babel isn't up to it and they need a striker if Torres gets injured they are in bother

We looked sluggish and static - and Spurs deserved the win.

At least that's one tough away game out of the way. Bring on Stoke and Villa.

    robbed !!!

should have been given at least another penalty for the "handball" ..... the shoulder charge on Voronin wouldnt have been given if it was on any other part of the pitch --- but the "handball" the left arm went out (thats the way I see it ;))

Lucas and Gerrard had to switch positions because Lucas couldn't provide the delivery. It looked like Gerrard had no confidence in anyone on the team. Apart from Torres who couldn't get a look in.

Defence looks to be hammered with injuries - will be expecting a signing before the end of the transfer window.

Babel was poor, didn't seem to put himself about at all.

Spurs were good but Liverpool put in a bad performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

They should have scored about 4 more than they did.

I had high hopes for Babel today but Yossi showed why he should be ahead every time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,595 ✭✭✭kingshankly

hard to be positive after that, the only thing i can say is it was the same result as last season.
but if we continue to play like that we wont make the top 4 never mind win the league.
we need a striker big time.
reina played well kept us in it at times.
johnson terrific display great run for the goal
carra thought he played very well made some terrific challenges.
skirtel didnt want to know after the knock
insua tried hard but was poor
kuyt tried but absolutely no quality today
lucas best midfielder we had by a mile
    mach looked unsettled all game
babel terrible probably his worst display in a red shirt and thats saying something.
torres little supply but any time he got the ball give it away shocking display
gerrard tried hard but not his usual sharpness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Interesting performance today from Liverpool. Not their best obviously, but I thought that Gerrard dropping so deep was endemic of the problem he was dealing with, Liverpool were overrun in midfield. Modric put in a fantastic performance. I don't know how anyone wouldn't think that Alonso wouldn't have made a big difference, Gerrard was forced to drop deep to dictate play because nobody else could.
It was like watching Gerrard a couple of years ago.

Quite interested to see if this trend continues in the next 2 games this week. If it does, losing Alonso could be quite the problem

liverpool were never going to win the league anyway, 3rd at best, more than likely 4th, liverpool are going to miss alonso far more than Man utd (1-0) are going to miss ronaldo, mark my words

Yossi made a big difference when he came on.

Just to point out, we do have someone to replace alonso. His name is aquilani. Wasn't available today.

it hit that hand .... then went to the right and his left arm went out (was out already maybe) ...... bing !! ... PENO !!!

we knew that, i uploaded the stats, you and others laughed at them 30% win rate without alonso in the side last 2 years, 67% with him in it, its clear as day how vital he was

I hear alot of criticism for babel which is fair. However , may i point out that kuyt was fkin atrocious aswell.

Benny deserves to start. Gerrard not 100%. All resulting in torres being fed scraps. Hes a great player but hes not a miracle worker.

Middle of the park has no ingenuity, cleverness or ability to dictate games.

We deserved fuk all and thats what we got.

This thread reminds me of why i don't even bother anymore. So much bullsh!t from so many idiots!!!

So the season is over after one match! Brilliant! So, Arsenal are Champions, Chelsea will get a Champions League spot. Spurs and Man Utd will get a Europa League place and obviously Everton are already down.

what is going to piss off liverpool fans even more is that bassong should have been banned for this match, only served one match of his two match ban he got at the end of last season

Aquilani himself put it best - he's been signed for 5 years not 5 weeks.
No point buying a fit, but inferior player
