Broadband in South Dublin / Bray?

I currently live in southern Bray and the best connection I could get was 7,6Mbps connection from Magnet through Eircom phonelines. In February we lost the connection completely for 1 week and every day we lose connection multiple times. I presume that the problem is the very old phone lines and there is no hope for improvements in next years in Bray. I also presume rest of the Co. Wicklow is at least as bad. I am so pissed off with current "broadband", that I will move away from Bray as soon as rent contract ends.

Does anyone know if the situation is better anywhere around here. 24Mbps connection would be nice? Anyone knows how the situation is in Sandyford, Cherrywood, Stepaside and Shankill?

BT are one company which can offer up to 24Mb, Magnet and Smart are another 2. Magnet has the largest number of uncontended ADSL2+ exchanges (40).

Unfortunatly we cannot offer ADSL2+ (up to 24Mb) to Bray.

Is there any reason you are only noting BT enabled exchanges?

Don't eircom offer 24Mbps on DSL too?

But no matter who offers it you can only get that speed on a good line maybe within 300m to 700m of the exchange, depending on quality. Maybe as few as 10% of people on an exchange.

You really need Cable or Fibre for those sort of speeds.

Not for residential (as far as I know) and i think its contended in business cases.

Fibre is the best bet really but ADSL2+ (uncontended) can rival cable in a lot of areas as cable is also contended.

Thanks Rory and Tim. A bit strange Bray is left out as Dun Laoghaire and Greystones get 24Mb connections.

I don't think Magnet is the problem as house is probably 30 years old and phone lines in this area seem to be old (hanging in the air on street). Anyway, I will send the details to Rory tomorrow.
