Skype- Mic not working

Hi - I am hoping someone can help me. I have a new skype account and bought the headset, i can get the headphones working on it but no one can hear me, its not picking the mic up. I have done everything i can think of.. been on Control panel etc and the mic is there (showing as line in.. and says working) but i cant get it…
