Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Electric window - Corolla

    Hi

I have a problem, the passenger side electric won't go down. It doesn't even make a noise, from either the driver or passenger side control.

This led me to think it is the window motor or something but the central locking button on the driver side is also on the blink (however the central locking when using the key in the door is fine). This happened at the same time as I noticed the window problem.

The Driver side window is working fine.

Any ideas as to what is causing this? Is it the drivers side control module or the passenger motor or both?

    P.S. Car is 1999 Corolla E11 2.0D GS ...

I had a similar problem with my 99 corolla a few months ago and assumed the worst. Luckily, I know an honest garageman / mechanic, from whom I bought the car a few years ago. The problem was simply a wiring connector that had come loose.

Around the same time the exhaust became extremely noisy at the front. Again, I feared the worst. I expected this problem and the one above would cost me E200-300 and maybe more.

The exhaust problem was where the bolts attaching it to the engine had loosened/corroded/fallen out. I think he had to drill out stuff and put in new bolts. He charged me E30 in total, I think.

But would that affect the central locking button too? It doesn't on mine.

99% of complaints we get about passenger windows not working are down to the window lock being pressed. bit of a dumb feature on cars without rear electric windows, most people don't use it.

You could have a faulty master switch, or it's possible that the wiring to the drivers door has been cut somehow.

Check connections on both front doors before you begin to spend silly money. Or have someone that you trust check them for you.

Toyotas are not noted for electric window failure afaik.

Check to see if an attempt has been made to cut the wiring loom to the door.

    Your presumption is correct!

How much am I looking at for a replacement master switch?

I will check the connectors, I think the door panels come off easily enough.

If the connectors are secure and no wires are cut then can I safely assume its the switch itself?

master switch should be got from a breakers for about €30-40. I think new ones are over €150. doubt it's the switch though.

As said before check the plug at the rear of the Master control on your drivers door 9 times out of 10 it will be loose. Failing that the switches may have got wet at some stage & there might be some light corrosion on the contacts, if so just spray some switch cleaner into the switches & operate a few times & all should come good. (Had this with a neighbours car):D

It was one of those 9 out of 10 times! Simple loose connector.

Thanks for the help guys! :)
