Traffic arrangements at Samuel Beckett Bridge

    Anybody know what the exact road layout will be around the new Samuel Beckett Bridge in Dublin?

    Just looking at the south side of the bridge tonight, they have started laying out kerbs that seem to indicate where the lanes of traffic will go. It appears that there will be no through route on Sir John Rogerson's Quay anymore. Instead, traffic across the bridge in both directions will be routed around the Ferryman pub to/from Macken St.

    It would be interesting if anybody from Dublin City Council had a map of the layout. We'll see it next year anyway.

    The dominant route will become North Circular Road - Beckett Bridge - Macken Street. Sir John Rogerson's Quay will indeed become traffic calmed.

    A bus lane will also go in on North Wall Quay.

    Looks a bit retarded alright.

    Dont like the restrictions on Guild/Sheriff Street.

    They've only put in a dedicated cycle lane on the south-north side but only a shared pedestrian/cycle path on the north-south way. And we all know that cyclists and pedestrians don't share space very well, that's why it's usually illegal to do so.

    The restrictions at the south end make it very difficult for a cyclist to head in Pearse st direction. We'll have to jump up on paths and the like. Whatever about vehicular restrictions, assuming cyclists who want to get to the city centre are going to go on a big loop down Cardiff Lane is stupid.

    Only DCC can spend e40m on a very nice bridge and get very very basic stuff like this wrong.
