I got a hermit crab a few days ago.... Pet shop owner told me they just need a tank and some salty food

Now after bringing it home, I read up on their care and realised they need humid conditons, temperture of around 22 d etc

Now my problem is that the little crab is sitting in his house and not moving around. I know they are nocturnal but his food is untouched so I know he has not come out at night...

Anyone keep these and know what could be wrong??????

Mine have a heat mat - a sandy soil mix - vitamins for their water - crab food - lots of extra shells - water with sponges in it.

    Thanks Bond 007

The next day I went out and got a heat mat. Do you leave it all all day???? its does not seem to generate much heat

But on a happier note this morning I noticed the food dish had been raided and much to my daughters amusement the crab food had been ignored and the dog food pellet had been dragged into his sleeping quarters...:D

I also have the sponge and also water drops to remove chlorine after I read up on them.... I got a fine gravel mix

    Anything else I should know?

My heat mat is buried & is on year round - they love to climp so rocks & branches can be used - add some fresh fruit once a week & remove the next day - some peanut butter will sometimes be eaten.
