Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ireland was industrious enough - not surprising tho.

    Koumas.

thought benayoun and reina did well.....
most of the spurs team played very well..... with the exception of Keane not able to finish.

Owen didnt do too bad with his appearance at Old Trafford - he should feature in the goals in the game against Burnley (no offence Burnley fans - just dont think you have a chance)

didnt see the arsenal game but reports suggest that everton didnt play - or stopped playing after 2-3goals....fabregas seemed to have control and the midas touch.

saw some of the Man City/Blackburn game - no-one stood out for me ...well.. maybe "Ireland" it was a composed finish but he could/should have passed it across earlier for someone else to score and keeper should have pounced on him instead of backing off.

Sorensen and Shay given did well.

I dont think any of the BIG names performed (well chelsea/liverpools big names didnt).... Rooney did alright....Berb...meh !

Stephen Ireland. I was very impressed with they way he didn't square it to Adebayor at the end and just shot himself. Nice one.

owen did nothing of note in his cameo, except miss a sitter?

Impressed by Rooney, but we all know he is an excellent player.

Was extremely impressed with Drogba. More his attitude than anything else. There were a few times when he could have hit the deck looking for frees etc. but he seems to be more determined so far this season (including pre-season and Community Shield).

Plus I had him as captain in my Fantasy Football so that gave me more reason to appreciate his performance.

That's what I thought too, surprised so many people are naming him (though maybe they didn't watch the whole match).

I'd say the same about Drogba - scored a nice free kick and a mi**** cross but otherwise didn't impress me too much.

    Modric was very impressive

    such a good player Modric.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,548 ✭✭✭Draupnir

I thought Cameron Jerome did well against United, looks a threat and should do well against more equally matched teams.

that new lad for Birmingham, Benitez, looked decent when he came on.

silly passing judgement on any players this early in the season though.

I could have sworn that's what he's paid to do...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

yea, but it doesn't mean he had a very good game as a result.

i'm paid to do my job every day, and i do it everyday, but some days its done better than others.

similarly, Gerrard had a stinker at the weekend, really really poor game, but was still on the score sheet-does that mean he had a very good game? nope, scoring is his job-its the bare minimum he has to try & do.

Yes Houghton said that the goal he scored off the free kick is hard enough to do.

On the flip side just because some one scores a goal doesn't mean they didn't also play well.

    no it doesnt

my point was that all the actually did on saturday was score

implying that he didnt have a particularly good game, so im not sure how he couldve impressed anyone. unless all they saw was a 45 second highlight clip on motd

The games I saw: Blackburn v Man City, Man United v Birmingham and Spurs v Liverpool.

Lennon, Modric and Palacios stood out the most for me. Liverpool are so good at breaking up the play, I was impressed with how the Spurs' midfield took them on and managed to play their way through at times.

I thought Benayoun did well when he came on.

City didn't seem to be tested that much. None of them really stood out for me except for Ireland's finish, which was class imo.

    Song!!

    For me the best were;
Modric - Looks like he's really found his role in the Spurs team
Palacios - Tenacious but has good feet and doesn't give the ball away
Cattermole - Same as above just in red and white
Rooney - Looked focused and I think he'll have a good season
Drogba - Strong, quick and a constant threat.

Have to say i was impressed with Keith Fahey and Stephen Hunt who took his goal well.

Other than the obvious few that have been mentioned, I was very impressed with Miljas at Wolves - cracking shot on him!!

Bellamy (hurts me to say it) played well for city

Koumas looked tidy for Wigan while Bent looks set to be a hit at Sunderland - he just scored again tonight. Also at Sunderland, Cana is what they missed last year, a hard tackling defensive midfielder

Noble and Jimenez at West Ham looked good - Noble looks set to build on a good season last year

Benayoun looked lively when he came on - hope he gets a few starts and isnt used as an impact sub by Rafa

Shawcross at Stoke, a goal and a strong presence at the back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

    From an Arsenal POV:

    Song - He's improved drastically

Vermaelen - It's great to have a leader in defence and he'd put his head places you wouldn't put a crowbar

Aside from that was quite impressed by Larsson and Fahey, can see them doing well this year.

Thought Arsenal looked great against Everton. Tore them apart. Song in particular was immense, he let Fabregas play and hr ran the show. Bendtnar was good in the first half too. The whole team really closed Everton down well and out fought them in midfield. Scary if they can keep this up for the season, it was a new side that i hadn't seen before.
