Can anyone think of a good metaphor/image for a failing relationship? I got an idea for a song from a john mayer tune called 'slow dancing in a burning room' and now i want to write a song with the same theme of a doomed relationship. I have the melody and musical arrangements completed already but i always struggle with lyrics.

Yuo can steal some old ones and rehash em, If you remember an old song called 'they shoot Horses don't they' by a band called racing cars. I'm not sure if they stole the title from Pollacks movie of the same name but it's a great metaphor for someone suffering in a fading relationship and they wrote a song totally based on the metaphor so a song can come sonething very simple but yet impactful. I see no reason why you can't reuse it. Hope this helpa. Good luck with your songwriting.
