HI ALL WOULD YOU THINK IT WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR AN 8 YEAR OLD AND 12 YEAR OLD THANKS BRIAN

I don't see why not, I'm sure it's no more graphic than Star Wars or LOTR.

Ironically I had no idea it was all animated and thought it was just going to be CGI heavy, so I'm interested in seeing it now. :D

    When's it out?

Why do people keep saying its animated? its not! its just got a lot of cgi backgrounds and characters, like the Star Wars prequels, its still got real actors and sets in it, just cgi for the alien worlds and Na'vi characters

Regretting I watched that. While it looks fantastic, I cant help but feel that extended trailer is more or less the entire film condensed into 5 minutes.

    LOTS of new footage/material:

    James Cameron's Vision Featurette:

    Themes Featurette:

    Human Hardware Featurette:

Through Eyes Of Colonel Quaritch (Spoilers! - also keep in mind there's lots of dubbing/editing going on here to make the featurettes simple and suitable to all ages. E.g. Jarhead = God Damn etc.)

Also, those of you who are on the Xbox Live Marketplace should be able to see a 4 minute chase scene in streaming HD.

Coke Zero will be branding over 140 million cans with avatar Augmented reality logos - here's a new ad:

McDonalds will also be using augmented reality for their happy meal toys.

    New LG/Avatar ad:

    Casio transform their London storefront:

Sample of the James Horner score (This track isn't featured on the soundtrack CD, but it is real - it's up on avatarscore.com):

I think this looks great and big fan of Cameron however the average person STILL has still not heard of this at all, Fox's marketing dropped the ball completely taking so long for a teaser and releasing a rubbish one at that, alienating its core fanbase. Read on a box office forum today that US tracking right now is indicating an opening weekend in the mid 40s. I hope I'm wrong but this could replace Waterworld as the go-to term for massive cinematic flops

I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing a lot of Avatar stuff everywhere by the start of December. Coke Zero cans are all going to be Avatar adverts as will McDonalds Happy Meal Toys. If there aren't posters absolutely everywhere in two weeks time I'll be very surprised. I think though, because it's not an established name or anything, they're waiting to blow the majority of their marketing budget on the few weeks leading up to the release of the film. I'm already seeing ads on the TV, so I don't know what you're talking about - how many movies run TV ads 3 weeks before their release?

Anyway LOADS of new videos here, some amazing footage (Small spoilers - probably the largest spoiler is in the Trudy Chacon video - so avoid if you're sensitive):

The score has been removed from Youtube. Pity, as I was looking forward to hearing some of it. I'm a big fan of Horner's music.

Don't worry mate, you can hear that tune on avatarscore.com - just click the "Music" tab on the right. It's not actually on the soundtrack CD though. I actually heard 1 minute samples of all the CD tracks yesterday that a website put up, but it looks like Fox has been all over the net removing unauthorized uploads. It's really nice, the same style as Titanic. It has a catchy theme that runs through a lot of the tracks (including the Leona Lewis song lol) and there's a some electronic elements as well as tribal singing/choral work (in the Na'vi language).

Looks like someone ripped the Leona Lewis sample though:

I can make out the theme tune embedded in the song, but the pace is different. I assume it's hard to make it out if you haven't heard the other tracks. It's good though.

1 minute samples of the soundtrack are back up!

    http://soundcloud.com/user2753116/sets/avatar_ost_samples

You can hear the theme very clearly in "Night Iridescence" and several other tracks like "Becoming One of the People", "Jakes First Flight", "Scorched Earth" etc. I really like the way that variations of that tune run through several tracks.

Full Leona Lewis end credits song released. Not my cup of tea but it's obviously doing the trick (getting the girls hooked) if you look at the YouTube comments. I think she's performing it on the X-Factor finals next weekend. Brilliant marketing. Don't understand what the lyrics are going on about at all but they'll probably make sense after watching the film.

    Also, neat new TV ad:

i dont like the look of this film at all, and it does look animated despite the fact it isnt

hopefully ill be pleasantly surprised with it but not holding out any hope

I'm more worried about the hammy story than the visuals, I want my eyeballs to be fùcked in 3D and top off an overall good year for movies.

Though I think too much of this film is being shown in previews and featurettes. If ya don't want to know much about this film then steer clear of them.

I just can't wait to see the explosive climactic fight at the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭indough

yep the story seems a bit rubbish but im guessing it will probably be a bit different to what ive read, cameron usually delivers im just worried he got a bit carried away in the effects department this time, which is saying something considering his track record

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,516 ✭✭✭Outkast_IRE

To be honest its one weekend away and the marketing is certainly lacking at the moment .
Iv only watched one trailer and i prefer to keep it that way with some mistique .
If they wanted mass appeal they will put an ad on during xfactor tonight or somethin.

    Hey,

Anyone know if Avatar is only going on general release in 3d?

I find 3d movies very difficult to watch, very uncomfortable and I just dont think the effect is worth it to be honest with you?

All I can see so far in pre bookings is 3D showings??

    Any 2D releases?

    /Marc

I dont wear glasses I just find the 3D glasses really uncomfortable to wear and it seems to strain my eyes wearing them and i find the glasses a bit to small so my eyes sometimes focus on something outside the edges of them.

I'm just wondering if the 3d effects of Avatar in the imax cinemas are going to be somewhat different to the normal 3d showings of the movie. I wanted to take a trip to London over new year's and catch an imax viewing of Avatar, but it looks like that may not happen.
Also, what's the resoloution like on avatar? Is it made natively for an imax showing or is it just digitally remastered for the imax screens?

Indeed. Got them for Cineworld and ive been counting the days ever since. Everytime the trailor comes on i have a little nerdgasm cos its gettin so close!

If it makes you feel any better, i think the entire world had prebookings for the new twilight movie!

well what bothers me more is i head to omniplex which are countrywide so youd think theyd have their asses in gear and sort it . im in cork city .
I only watched the one trailer and loved it , i hate watchin all the trailers i think it lessens the impact of the movies.

Ive only seen the one on telly, i refuse to watch the ones that keep popping up on Facebook. Theres so many you could piece them all together and you'd pretty much ahve the entire movie!

Im surprised an Omniplex isnt prebooking it! Maybe they just dont like you.....just a thought...:)

... and they're all incredibly positive at this stage of the game.

    Rotten Tomatoes

I know I'm sighing with relief. In fairness, I think a lot of people were worried about the film.

Most of the reviews are awed by the technical aspects of the production, but there seems to be a little disagreement on whether the storyline is too simplistic or simply a fairytale.

I haven't read the linked page but I don't think it's really surprising, or a useful indicator to the general public, that the advance reviews are positive. A better indicator on the perceived merits of the film will be the overall tenor of reviews and audience commentary a week or two after general release.

(Personally I'm getting sick of hearing about how Avatar is going revolutionise cinema. That may or may not be true, but until we can see the influence Avatar has had on 10 years of film-making, it sounds like an excuse for the film not being enjoyable on its own terms....)

Jim Cameron has never failed to revolutionise cinema. That's a good track record in my books.

I wouldn't take these reviews as proof the film succeeds, but it's reassuring given the vitriol that was unleashed on the back of the first teaser. Looking forward to seeing it next weekend at any rate
