Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i'll probably pick it up , although it wont be as good as the old pc version

Having watched the IGN and Gamespot video reviews and read some of the others, it seems the AI is pants, graphics - good but nothing special, and while it uses a hub system to make it seem a bit non linear, the town isn't very big so not a lot of exploring to do. Also other niggles with the way you reload. Pity they don't have a demo up on Live. Sounds overall like a forgetable shooter. Probably hold out for Batman and hope the combat system in it, doesn't turn out to be repetitive.

I was looking forward to this but since they gimped the previously excellent Wolf Multiplayer and fired the Multiplayer devs I'll wait til its cheap. Then playthrough once and sell on. :D

Yeah saw that but in fairness I think the multiplayer devs were outsourced so they were working for a company which specialises in multiplayer games dev. I think Endrant Studios is a small multiplayer development company hired by activision to do work on the game. It's not uncommon to see smaller companies let go staff after they've been working on a big project and future prospects arent plentiful. Don't think activision/id/raven had any say in it though.

Anyway, back to the game. Doesn't look like anything special or innovative. Might rent it at some stage but its all just very 'meh' at the moment. Plenty of other games I'd rather hold out for

It's not that they were fired, as in it must be terrible. It's more that it's a confirmation that no further work will be done on the multiplayer. So it won't get any better and without support will die off.

    Ahh right. Gotcha :o

Might get this but I'd love a demo first ... last one I played was Return to Wolfenstein which was great

I played the first couple of levels of Wolfenstein tonight and I liked it a lot. It's just a lot of fun taking out loads of Nazis and I liked the supernatural powers.

Having said that, this is the first Wolfenstein game that I have played and I have absolutely no interest in multiplayer so I may not be the best placed person to rate this game.

That's not necessarily true. There's a thread on the wolfenstein forums where the community is asked to suggested improvements for future patches. I'm sure it was just a case of getting the main devs to concentrate on SP until it's done. They can then concentrate on MP refinement themselves now I reckon.

I'll likely pick this up. I loved the last one and the videos that i've seen of the game look fun enough. I couldn't give two tosses about the graphics - they look perfectly fine.

That's good to hear. Hopefully you're right! :D I'll keep an eye on it as I won't be buying it for awhile yet.

cant wait to get this.. was a huge fan of the original game and no matter if its not on a par with COD or GOW its still got NAZI freaks gettgin downed on mass

Played for a bit over the last few nights, so far based on what i've played it looking like a grind for me to finish. I wont outright say it's boring , but I'd nearly have prefer if it was just linear and not pretend not-linear with the town sections.

This game wasn't even on my radar, despite loving RTCW, as I was too focused on MW2 and OpFlash2. Don't think I'll pick it up though because the caliber of FPS's is so high these days that there's no need to settle for a run of the mill shooter.

Really enjoying this. sure its nothing amazing but its solid good fun. Any fan of RTCW should love it

Meh... Think I'll wait until it can be picked up for under a tenner, not even sure if I would bother then...

When have Raven not made a mediocre game?

    SoF II was awesome!!!!

The Voyager game Raven made was great at the time!

I'm enjoying Wolfenstein a lot at the moment. It is, however, very old fashioned! It's a bit of a throwback to older FPS titles. Once I got that I started really enjoying it. It's an 'arcade' like FPS, silly enemies.

I like the unlockable mods for the guns, the new abilities are a bit weird but fun.

It's basically on a par with Half Life 1, Quake 2 etc in terms of the running and gunning, and a lot of fun.

    I rented it though!

Star Trek: Elite Force was hands down, the greatest Star Trek shooter ever made! :pac:

Also Jedi Knight II was the greatest Star Wars shooter of all time, which is actually genuine praise. :D Lightsabre combat was pretty slick on PC in it too.

Very harsh on Raven, while they've never really produced a AAA title* i'd say some of their output has been pretty good.

*Forgot they did Jedi Knight II: Outcast.

I don't think I'm being harsh. Granted I haven't played Elite Force but everything else after Hexen has been a generic and uninspired shooter. And that includes Jedi Knight 2. Thought that without the license it was pretty mediocre and without a proper physics system the power powers lacked any feeling of power. Not a patch on jedi knight and dark forces.

And soldier of fortune 2 can take a long walk off a short pier with it's AI that shot you if you were doing too well, crappy broken stealth level and enemies that could pin point you with a grenade throw from halfway across the map.

JK2 without the licence wouldn't have been anything. It was all about the licence and being a jedi. The great thing about JK2 was that once you got hold of your lightsaber you never really had to use any other weapons. You felt like a Jedi, unlike in JK1 where you still were far dependent on your rifles. I thought the powers were handled excellently - far better than on the new TFU -, the memory of force choking a stormtrooper and smashing him off walls still brings a smile to my face. Dark forces left me cold.

The only thing that really bothered me with SOF2 was the OICW and the draw distance, other than that I loved the OTT nature of it.

Also the random level generator. Actually SoF II and JK:II were way ahead of their time. Star Wars force powers are only just catching up with Force Unleashed which pales in comparison, but at least has the powers somewhat right. There's not really any games to compare SoF II to as besides Call of Duty: World at War most FPS are neutered when it comes to gore and very po-faced taking themselves far too seriously.
Think I'm getting a bit carried away here, best games EVAR???? :D

The saber combat in JK2 really was excellent, I remember a friend was obsessed about playing it online. They even had a system of etiquette based on the rankings, e.g. the lower ranked player had to bow first.

edit: Id must have made out like bandits licensing the Q3 engine, the amount of games that utilized it was huge.

Hey actually myself and my mate got quite into it too. Only game we ever played together online as the force powers were so much fun! Hence the soul-crushing disappoint when Force Unleashed was snatched up, and run home to be fed into a Force-starved Xbox only to be turned off after an hour or so and Jedi Knight 2 reinstalled! :D

The saber combat in JK2 really was excellent......

    "g_dismemberment ...... "

Promoted the various duels during the game from great to excellent..........a real jump over the original, and far, far superior to the Force Unleashed

As for Wolfenstein.........5.5/6 out of 10 (on PC Anyway).......OK for a quick reminder of how some FPS have moved on, but no more than that - but I've played far worse.

jk 2 was fun, but it felt nowhere near as epic as Jedi Knight, storywise it was very dull despite the addition of loads of lightsaber badies and mark hamill playing luke at some points. Saying that, the mechanics of the game worked very well.

On Raven software, they are a good company and when it comes to ID technology and putting games together they are top notch, but they are bland when it comes to anything above and beyond weapons.

on wolfenstein, sorry anygame that starts with an intro on the tirpitz, but no level on the ship is full of fail to me as a naval fanboy, even more so when they got the design of the ship so wrong in the intro.
