Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Camera Insurance? - No home insurance and not a professional...

I've been thinking about insuring my camera gear. As I'm in college my gear is never at home and I assume it wouldn't get covered under my parents home insurance if anything happened to it. I've seen sites linked here before but they seemed to be for professional photographers.

How would you recommend an amateur to insure their camera outside of home insurance? What would you expect to get covered (accidental damage?)? Would be interested to know if anyone tried claiming from any services people suggest here...

    Thanks!

My daughters laptop is covered on my home insurance (all risks addon) while she is in college in Galway, I'm quite sure it would be the same if she had a camera, (though they might ask questions if she had professional levels of gear).

As a first step I would call your parents insurers and get a quote, at least then you have a price to work off.

BTW I had a claim against my policy (house broken into and my own laptop stolen) and found FBD a joy to deal with, the loss adjuster went on to the Dell site, and got a quote for the nearest comparable machine, and once I'd agreed, I had a cheque for the value of a brand new machine (even though mine was 18 months old) within a few days.
