Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just wondering if any of ye have done this and if so what material have you used / where have you gotten it?

lol - I only need a tiny bit apparently, a 40mm long by 3~3.5mm wide and 2.5mm thick.

Is it just any old foam that one might buy in a hobby shop?

anyone been there / done that?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I've replaced the seals and the mirror damper recently for a Nikon FE film camera, quite straight-forward. I purchased the pre-cut foam kit (€9 delivered) on Ebay from a seller who specialises in this.

Funny was only reading up on this yesterday morning

That whole site has lots of good instructions http://www.kyphoto.com/classics/sealreplacement.html

Think he's also the guy whole sells the ebay kits, http://myworld.ebay.com/interslice/

    This site http://www.mattdentonphoto.com/cameras/light_seals/index.html
mentions a few things to, but maybe its more about light seals
For the new seals, you can use a variety of materials, from craft-store closed-cell foam to prefab kits from some eBay sellers* or Micro-Tools. I've used a variety of things, including film canister felt (great stuff, but small), strips of neoprene from cut-up mousepads, "Foamies" (closed-cell foam you can get at the craft store). All good, but I've settled on two easy, long lasting materials: self-stick felt, and cotton yarn like they used to use in good old German cameras. Plus Pliobond as an adhesive.

I have also purchased kits online for this, it is an easy enough task to do. I recently did this to a Fujica STX all you need is patience and read a lot of sites. If your SLR is of value to you try it first on one you don't value.

Thanks folks. I've sourced an eBay kit which will replace all the seals including the foam damper pad. It's $9 + $1 for postage. Only problem is it comes from the US so a little bit of a wait will be had.

The good thing is that it is likely to save me £60 STG + postage to the UK to get a full service done. Ok, it won't be a full service and eventually I may need to get the service done but its worth $10 to put off that day, and i'm thinking it should be a bit of fun trying to figure out how to actually do it and still be able to take photographs with it - promise that i'll thread carefully.

If you ordered from "interslice" on Ebay, I found delivery extremely fast, 5 days or less if I remember correctly
