Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know how much it costs to get get a passanger 4x4 (pajero 7 seater or similar) converted to a commercial vehicle? I would also like to know what work needs to be carried out to get it done as i might give it a try myself.

    Yes its possible.

    There are a few rules:

    - No rear seats (Duh)
    - All rear side windows to be removed and replaced with fixed metal plates
    - Interior floor pan must be fully welded in. All welds must be visible to VRT officers.

Then present it to VRT office and scribble out relative forms.

A few years ago was there not a loop hole for so called "crew-cabs" based on 4x4's or large people carriers?

They put in a metal sheet between the passengers & boot, removed the rear side windows and viola... 5 seats with commercial tax and no VRT!

The ex had her 7 seat Pajero done a few years ago, think it was about 1200 euro. But best be done professionally, Revenue do inspect it before issuing Commercial Reg.

Ok I have done this myself recently and you need to do the following.

    1. Remove the rear seats and belts in the back
    2. Weld all the seat and seat belt mounting points in the back
    3. Limo tint the back windows
    4. Bring it to a local weigh station and get it weighed
    5. Get the jeep DOE'd
    6. Ring the local tax office and ask for an appointment to get it checked.
    7. Fill in the forms they give you and get the goods only declaration signed at the garda station
    8. Go back to the tax office and hand all the paperwork and your taxbook and money to tax the jeep and they'll send it all off and give you a tax disc. You'll get the tax book in a few days in the post with the amendment made to class.

As for the big 5 seater jeeps getting crewcab classification, I think they've got wise to it in recent times and anyway you need to have something massive to get crewcab classification as the load space has to be more than the passneger space in the back. I think they had to lower the floor in the boot area of some of them jeeps and as far as I remember they were all Landcruiser Amazons which if you could afford one the tax shouldnt be really a problem :)
