It's gonna be impossible to log in on saturday isn't it?

Don't see whay that would be the case, given the stress tests haven't been a disaster, but I guess you'll never know.

Luckily in EU we're going live early morning rather than midnight in the States, so that might remove some of the load as well.

I think i'll be getting up at 5am for the launch. Go on Mumble, and try to sleep on the couch till someone shouts that the servers are up. Reserve my names, and then get some breakfast. Followed by a marathon session :P

Over 1,000 posts on this thread now. Should we be thinking of a GW subforum by now? ;)

Argh. Was all set for playing this practically straight through the weekend, treat myself to a massive gaming session, but now something else is happening which means I won't be able to play till Sunday night at the earliest  Sod's law, you feckers will all be ahead of me! Guess I'll just have to make up for it next week!

  • Registered Users Posts: 966 ✭✭✭GO_Bear

It looks interesting, I like how they removed the dual classes, that was just too hard to balance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭Xeyn

I'm on nights this week, so I won't be home till after 9 am. Just gonna make my chars basically and then sleep. I'll play a few hours in the evening on Saturday and Sunday.
Then I'm off for 2 weeks from Monday! Woohoo! Too bad I'll be studying... Boo.

Welp Im now very hyped for this, the engine still isnt very well optimised but arenanet do seem aware of this and I can see there main focus after launch for several weeks is getting that sorted, hearing alot of very bad performance issues on nvidia cards esp.

Regardless cant bloody wait, Im not to pushed about play time this weekend but I do want the usual names for mmo chars, and seeing as names are game wide not server wide(?) Ill have to make sure I get up at 6:45am on saturday :P

Now your just being mean :P

But there is alot of whinging about it in the usual spots on the interwebs, still far to CPU orientated. Im just bitter I cant max it out at 1920*1200 with everything at its max, I should be able to without a doubt but thats pc gaming for ya.
That and it dont really have a proper AA, just fxaa or supersampling which is a bit of the worst 'fakest' type of AA to one where your just gona burn your GPU by forcing a massive res. Boggles me minds a bit, reminds me of RIFT actually It had woefull AA.

I have to say this is the first MMO which had had graphics as good as EQII imo. To be fair thats an old game - so many MMOs have put be off because of the graphics.

I think this will tide me over nicely until EQNext comes along. :D

I played the test last night - seemed pretty promising - but no mouse turn? If you want to turn your char without moving you need to use keyboard? wtf?

Err.. I was happily turning around with the mouse.

Click and hold left mouse to look around you, click and hold right mouse to turn your character , thats the way MMOs have been for years mate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,224 ✭✭✭Procrastastudy

As there is so much movement needed in this game what are people doing about hotkeys?

Seems neither taking your hands off WASD or the mouse is ideal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭Xeyn

Yeah, people are coming out with all sorts of ways to maximise effectiveness.
If you can retrain yourself to use esdf instead of wasd - you may find yourself at an advantage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭ShaneScouse

One of them nerdy mouse with all the buttons on the side(razer naga, etc.) is ideal tbh. Or use a keypad.

    I broke my NAGA :(

I tend to use the G keys on my G15 but you still have to lift off the movement keys - hmmm maybe just get used to the numpad

I'm a lefty so, I use the number pad. 4,8,6,2 movement right arrow jump. 5,1,7,9,3 are weapon skills. + heal. Enter,.,0 utility skills. Mouse button weapon swap, it's what I got so far.

Yea mate and if you played the game in the state it was last night then you'd see that holding down either the right or left button and moving the mouse *just* move the camera and don't turn the char (it will turn once you're moving)

If you're standing still the only way to turn the char is with the keys.

  • Registered Users Posts: 66 ✭✭Toom3y7

I dont think ill make the 5am start as there is a possibility to be waiting around for the 3 hours! 8am ill be ready and waiting though :D

Is this a problem though? I'm not really sure there's many reasons to be standing still and turning on the spot. If you're not moving in combat, you're doing it wrong :)

I requested a forum this morning, as with the launch just 2 days away, i'd say there's going to be a lot of chat about it, and being f2p (bar the initial purchase) it should last longer then most other mmo's.

Am I right in thinking the Engineer (in a particular set up) is the closest this game comes to a Main Healer?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,235 ✭✭✭caspa307

best place to buy this online?

Not really sure there is a main healer as such. Certain professions are better for healing, but they are all useful. From what i know, Engineer, Ele and Guardian all have good healing skills. But the others might as well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,224 ✭✭✭Procrastastudy

Cool - its just they can swap out their weapon skills for healing so I wondered. Guardian is gonna be my Alt so I think I'm covered on the healing front :D

I love the way they've muddled the classes - gonna make for an interesting group dynamic.

Its interesting for sure but nobody really knows in terms of pve how well it will work out.

Gamespy pose some interesting thoughts about GW2 here

I think Guardian could come out as the most supportive role by looking at the classes, still hard to tell though. There is definately a healthy mix between all classes.

Was thinking of doing that myself, but have the feeling admin won't be willing to make one until we can show how full the main forum is going to get with different threads about GW2. +1'd anyway.

Had not heard that you had to have it bought before the 17th to get access on Satuarday morning. I bought it on the 20th and had access to the stress test. Pretty sure it said I have access to the headstart when buying as well.Do ya have a link?

I also bought it on the 20th and i was sent on an email with my serial code and it said that i will be able to access the game on the 25th? I also cant find anywhere that is says you have to buy before the 17???

Just been looking around and nothing i can find confirms this. Most ArenaNet stuff is still pushing the pre-purchase copies to get the three day head start so i'm assuming it's still okay (but that could be wishful thinking as i only bought it earlier today...).

I read from one of the GW2 tweets that if you got into the stress test your OK for the head start.

  • Registered Users Posts: 263 ✭✭ShaneScouse

If you have been in the betas and stress tests then your pretty much sorted for Headstart.

Also the game is about 16GBs, so a couple-several hours download depending what your BB is obv.
