Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    IT story
The big names at RTÉ radio had cause for celebration after the JNLR figures showed they continued to gain listeners.

With Radio 1 holding on to the top spot as the most listened to station in the country, Morning Ireland ’s Aine Lawlor and Cathal MacCoille, Joe Duffy, Marian Finucane, Ronan Collins, Ryan Tubridy and Pat Kenny all saw their listenership figures increase on a weekly basis between July 2008 and June 2009.

There were significant gains for RTÉ Radio 1's Mooney , which won over an extra 17,000 listeners to bring it to 222,000, with Saturday view gaining 24,000 listeners and the News at One getting an extra 18,000 people tuning in..../

Year-on-year Tom Dunne's morning show has added 26,000 to its audience, a 53 per cent rise, while The Right Hook has gained 15,000 listeners - a rise of 16 per cent. The Breakfast Show , which recently brought in Ivan Yates as a presenter, has risen 12 per cent, adding 8,000 listeners.

New station 4FM is has 95,000 listeners each week, 16 weeks after it launched. The station, which is available in Dublin, Cork Galway, Clare and Limerick, has set a target of 150,000 weekly listeners by the end of its first year.

I just thought I'd highlight that bit! :pac:

    BCI PDF file

Newstalks weekday share figures (7a.m.-7p.m.) remain in the gutter looking at the stars down in Cork, the Rebels sure don't like it. Nationally market share seems to be stranded on about 3.5%, ditto listenership at 7%.

That said the overall percentages are much of a muchness.

Not a hope there I would imagine.

Why not? Not everyone wants audiobook newspapers and magazines.

Click on the link in the first post in the thread, BCI PDF - it lists the stations JLNR covers.

Thanks deadhead13 It actually looks quite healthy for i102-104 and Spin, Beat seem to be stagnating a bit but they have on air the longest. i105-107 has a lot of ground to make up but it's still early days for the station and they have a decent team to fall back on. (Expect the thief to be making his way around the North east soon.)

They are indeed. There's a 5pm embargo on their release.

If Tom Dunne is down it's a disater for Newstalk he has failed to connect in anyway with the audience. When he came in last year the show was at 62,000.

His latest figure is 73,000. He initially made gains but is down 2,000 in the last quarter.

Thank you, not good news for NT especially with D'arcy making big gains.

Those surveys are rubbish. They seem to go up overall every time they come out. Where are all the new listeners coming from. How do they compile their information?

Its not the surveys, its the interpretation & spin put out by the stations that is dubious.

never realised their were so many masochists in ireland , id rather be stuck on a desert island for forty years with only a JEDWARD album than listen to ten seconds of tom dunne

Dunno where that 73,000 figure you quoted came from (apart from the post here) but it has to be wrong. He won't have that figure in Dublin only and he certainly has more nationally.

What exactly is Market Share, vs. listenership?

And there's something seriously wrong with this country if Moncrieff's figures are decreasing and Eamon Keane's are increasing.

How many have you got now?

Must be near the 100,000 mark? *

*Assuming you're Mark Noble from 104?

Listened yesterday is bacially someone heard by choosing to listen to a station but less useful, also could have heard it in a shop, flicked through the stations looking for something and heard a jingle that stuck in their head but may have only heard 2 seconds of a station and kept on flicking.

Market share is a reading of someone actually listening to a station or a show (time block in JNLR terms) for a period of time. It could still only be 15 mins (an average quarter) or less but the person was an active listener. Advertisers are more interested in this figure as this type of listener has a much higher chance of sticking around, like what they hear and will have a better chance of hearing their ad.

Not quite that high Fago ;) - myself and Steve K are neck and neck pretty much at nearly 80,000 each.

1 important thing when doing impressions you have to sound like the people you are mimicking. Apart from finnucane he is very poor.

I don't have a problem with these surveys either TV's TAM Ireland or Radio's JNLR.

My problem is the spin that the stations put on the figures and the fact that no newspaper person turns around and just forgets about the spin rather they do a write up of the Press Release provided by RTÉ, Newstalk or whomever.

Lets just deal with the facts rather then spinning the stats.
