Lads i have a 2 year old boxer who is like one of my kids as im sure most can relate to.I trained him myself (With very little experience )but managed to do a good job as he is obedient and caring and always behaves around kids but heres the thing,OTHER DOGS.
He just cannot sit still hen he sees one.Its impossible to let him off the leash when walking in parks with others. He just wants to head straight for the dog.Never in an agressive way but no matter what i try to correct him he just blatantly ignores me yet knows straight away after the dog has passed that he has done wrong.
As you can imagine he is a big big dog and the missus cant bring him for a walk around other dogs because of this.He is very good on the lead and off it until another dog comes into view.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thankyou in advance.

Has he had much socialisation with other dogs?

You say you've trained him, but you never mentioned whether he gets much interaction with other dogs or not.

    Hi

I'm having the same problem with my Kerry Blue terrier - he gets so excited around other dogs and really is uncontrollable. He starts to bark when he sees another dog and I just cannot get his attention to stop him.

He had a bit of socialisation with other dogs, and seems to relax a bit when he is allowed to approach the other dog and have a sniff (but its understandable that some owners don't want a barking dog to approach their dog, especially if its smaller!!).

Does anyone know of possible classes in the midlands (I don't think that 'puppy socialisation' would be suitable as he's 16 months now!).

    Thank you.

How did i forget to mention this DOH
He was out of a litter of 7 and it was 6 weeks before i could take him. When visiting the litter i noticed he didn't interact with other pups who where all typical hyper pubs.He just chilled. It was part of the reason i chose him/He chose me so to speak.
When i started walking him he would have very little interaction with other dogs(because of where i lived)
At around 4/5 months i tried to let him develope a friendship with my mothers dog(A collie) but he just wanted to pin her to the ground and the collie(and my mother :) ) got annoyed so that ended that "Friendship"
I probably need to get him some doggy companionship to sort the problem yes? ( wife will defo divorce me if i get another dog )

Socialisation and more exposure to dogs would probably help no end.

Initially it might take a lot of effort on your part (and patience on the other dog owners part) but once he gets used to being around other dogs it should certainly help.

I have this same issue with a boxer at the moment. She is perfect around people and in the house but on sight of another dog she goes berserk. She starts whining like crazy as i try to control her. Other dog owners who are patient often let me bring her close to their dog but you can see the tension. She starts by staring them out of it, no growling or anything, and then she'll literally box the head of them. The parents have two dogs at home that she is perfect with. She will try to dominate them but doesn't go too far. She also plays with one of them but he's only a Jack Russell and it ends up him trying to run away from her as she tries to walk all over him!

I have a similar problem but in reverse with my Jack Russells. When off the lead they're happy little dogs who mix well with other dogs and are very obedient, but when on the lead they bark their heads off if another dog comes in sight and pay no attention to me. It makes taking them to the park very difficult as I have to keep an eye out for approaching dogs and cross the road or take side roads if another dog comes towards towards us. Any suggestions? One is 7 and the other is 2.
