Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Plague inc - Great litte game where you have to create a disease and infect and kill everyone on the planet.

I've been playing this today but I cheated just so I could see what fun I could have!

That ring a rosy sound clip is freaky

Great game, bar the constant ads and they make it bloody hard to unlock anything without paying. I've wiped out the entire earth's population 3 times now, and i've still not unlocked the next plague type.

    Still though, good fun.

You have to complete a level on normal or brutal before you unlock the next one.

Hold the celebrations, your screen is flickering, as is the scanning laser, along with the reflective nature of the phone screen. Results can be very patchy, particularly if you enlarge the barcode too..

I had my Tesco Clubcard barcode on my phone and it was a trial trying to get it recognised.

There are plenty. This one is US centric. I don't use loyalty cards that much so haven't looked at any others.

This is where NFC should come into the ascendency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,265 ✭✭✭RangeR

It will. But it has a significant up front cost. A lot of smaller places will wait until the cost comes down. The big boys will go NFC first but might wait until phone proliferation.

It redirects you through their servers, use Adaway, it blocks the ads like it should.

    I've always used adfree android

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bigtincan.android.adfree

    Seems to work well

Adaway and adfree are for rooted devices only. Any suggestions for non rooted tablet?

Why not buy the non ad versions and support the developer if you don't want adverts? If there is no ad free version contact the developer letting them know your willing to pay for a ad free version. As annoying as ads are they're there to support the development costs.

Because it blocks ads on websites too! Fair enough if ads are subtle but awful intrusive ones really annoy me!

I also found the boards app unusable with all the ads, was a major reason to root thr phone within hours of buying it!

Quick question on this. If I visit a website whilst having Adblock software installed, does it count towards a page hit and therefore contribute towards generating ad revenue for the site?

The only time I would ever hit an advert on a site/app is if it's by mistake or if there was some incentive for me, like a discount.

Yes. The ad is still presented to your computer. Your adblock will just not show it.

So it won't be affecting the site/app income by blocking it then? Assuming that it wasn't something I was going to be clicking on anyway.

I'm not going to say with 100% certainty but there is nothing you can do to choose what the webserver sends you. If there was, you wouldn't need the unblock. You can be sure that the webserver is sending you the ad. Whether you click on it or not is not relevant.

I suppose it depends on how the site is paid for the advert. They may be paid for impression (in which case your adblock shouldn't affect this) or they could be paid for click-through, which means someone needs to click on the link for them to be paid. In that case, because you're blocking the ad, you'll never be able to click on it, meaning you could, in some small way, affect the bottom line for the website/developer.

Saying all that, I have adblock installed on my phone too :pac:

    Smart wifi toggler.

    Description:
Smart WiFi Toggler is an application designed to control your phone's WiFi using location based rules. Its aim is to conserve battery and minimize data charges by turning WiFi off when not connected to a network, and turning it on when a known hotspot is present. It constantly learns where your hotspots are located to make its decisions.
It's a very useful application if you frequently forget to turn WiFi off when leaving a hotspot, or if you want to automatically switch from mobile data to WiFi to conserve battery whenever you're back into a hotspot.

Jet Set Radio is out today, €4.50 though, not sure whether or not to take the plunge until I hear how the touch controls pan out. It was probably one of the most enjoyable games of all time on the Dreamcast.

Is there an app that can work out your wages for you. Allows you to enter different rates of pay and add up your hours at the end of each week/month
Just to add. If it allowed you to enter the hours daily and keep track of them. Basically I work various hours per day and have various rates of pay so looking for something where I enter these basics and it calculates how much I should get

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
    Say 8am - noon is 10per hour
Noon to 5pm is 15 per hour
    5pm - midnight is 20 per hour

So if I worked 11am - 7pm the app would calculate one hour at 10 five hours at 15 and two hours at 20.

If I enter my hours everyday which would be random could the app keep track and calculate my wages at the end of the month.

This game is an awful, 'time grabber'..

    Somewhat addictive.

    catanusmandroid.png

    Catan - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.exozet.android.catan

    catanusmandroidscreen.png

There are two mission packs available as in app purchases, but the main game in itself is fine, the AI is quite entertaining to play against.

I don't really know how to describe the game, it's a bit like Risk, crossed with Settlers.. and the spontaneity of the Flash game, Dice Wars.

Using a Nexus 7 and it looks good, no issues.

Use a spreadsheet. What you are describing seems to be highly specialised [read : not common]

It's got two levels of overtime rates.

    What he said.

If you set it up in Google docs you can access it through Google drive on your phone. Hell go as far as sticking a shortcut on your home screen.

If you are worried about not being able to access it on the move, you can always save the file to your phone and get an "Office" type app which will allow you to do what you want at anytime.

What you want should take all of about 5 minutes to do in excel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Also - google drive was updated this week with improved spreadsheet support...

Couple of days late on this answer, but no, I doesn't.

The ad blockers work by putting in local DNS entries for the ad server URLs. So requests to load an ad never leaves your phone, thus it cannot be counted as a hit by the ad server.

It would only work in the way you're saying if the ad was loaded but not displayed, which is beyond the realms of possibility for any of the apps.

Just installed AlcoDroid. It's an app for tracking your alcohol consumption. Gives you statistics on how much you've drank over a certain time period and all that. Might make it easier not to get as steamed up in future
