Hi all. Ive been after a land customs dagger for awhile now and am wondering if anyone here can help? With so many fake WW2 german items on the market id like to get some advise as to who to deal with etc.......

I have seen some german daggers for sale around the €300 mark but im not sure if the price fits the price range these items go for on the market. \i have also seen the same items on sale for up to €1,500.

I know alot of the things to watch out for eg: fit and finish. Along with signs of gilting and makers stamps etc. And if its steel or aluminium casting. But is there any other give aways as to fake or real?

    Thanks in advance, Chem.

    Hi chem,

it really depends on the dagger itself. There are many individual traits which can be picked up on if they are fake but that depends on what kind of dagger they are. SA and SS daggers can not only be faked but sometimes they are just put together from different parts of other daggers.

There are some books out there on how to discover fakes but your best option would probably be to join some of the many militaria hobby sites which have a multitude of experienced collectors on them. Whenever you are interested in buying a dagger obtain good pictures and post them in these forums for help.

SA daggers differ in prices depending on their condition, the maker and the number of daggers produced by that maker. They usually range from between (approx.) €300 - €900 (top). SS daggers are in a very different price class and you pay much more for these.
