Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

98 Honda Civic Damage..Advice needed.

Just the other night a friend of mine was driving his civic home, its a standard 1.4 98 civic with about 80,000 on the clock. The road was being resurfaced and there was quite a large ramp in the road which he didnt see. He smacked the ramp at approx 40mph, the car being so low profiled it hit it hard. After the impact he coudlnt engage a gear and the engine died and the car ground to a halt. No sign of any damage but the engine now refuses to start. The engine management light is on.

Anybody out there know a thing or two about civics??? Is he gonna have to fork out a load for it or is it possibly something knocked outta place...

I'd hazard a guess saying the repairs would be far far more than the car is worth.

    but it's impossible to tell.
Get the car to a mechanic.

i knew a guy who went too fast over a bump and grounded the car,it burst the oil sump, but he kept driving and eventually the engine seized, cost a fortune to fix,if this is what happened it will definetly cost more than the car is worth to repair it!,

just read the post again,is there no damage underneath the car?

If the ramp wasn't indicated then perhaps it's the councils problem?

I would have said an inertia switch (sudden jolt cuts fuel when you have an accident),but that honda hasnt got one..

A good mechanical check in order, check the earth connections from the engine to the body of the car, also fuses worth checking. Master fuses could
have bein shaken loose too. A diagnostic check will tell what fault code is comin on also. Hope that helps. Good luck.
