Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

link doesn't work. And it's a bit of a ****e laptop, even for 300 quid. Celeron processor + 1Gb of RAM + Vista = nightmare. Even upgrading the RAM would leave you with a poor machine. I'd rather buy a netbook.

Since the Dell was posted as a comparison to the Fujitsu, let's have a look at the differences in their respective CPUs below:

    Intel Celeron T3000

    Clock speed: 1.8 GHz
    # of cores: 2
    L2 cache: 1 MB
    FSB: 800 MHz
    Lithography: 45 nm
    Max TDP: 35 W

    Intel Celeron 560

    Clock speed: 2.13 GHz
    # of cores: 1
    L2 cache: 1 MB
    FSB: 533 MHz
    Lithography: 65 nm
    Max TDP: 31 W

What the above serves to demonstrate is that the CPU in the Dell not only has an additional core, making it a dual-core processor, it also has a higher FSB, ensuring access to RAM is faster, a smaller die size, ensuring lower power consumption and less heat is generated, and it does all this with only an additional 11% more TDP, even with an additional core.

In addition, there is no mention of the battery type on the Powercity website, so it's safe to assume the battery types are, at the very least, comparable. Also, if the Fujitsu model, an LI2727 I believe, is the same model on the Argos UK website, then the Dell offers, in addition to my previous comments, the following:

    - a higher resolution display; 1366 x 768 vs 1280 x 800
    - Better graphics processing with HD decoding; Intel 4500MHD vs Intel X3100
    - Bigger hard drive; 250 GB vs 120 GB
    - 3x more ram; 3 GB vs 1 GB.
    - Better OS; Vista Home Premium vs Vista Home Basic

Going by the above, the Dell is definitely the better deal.

Since I'm assuming the Fujitsu on the Argos UK website is the same as on Powercity's website, which seems very likely given the price, I may as well note that the battery life quoted is "2.2 hours battery life (depending on usage)", which would indicate the battery on the Dell and Fujitsu laptops are, in fact, comparable.

    Processor and Battery are poor.
    For €429, not that poor.

Although it is a celeron it is dual core from 45nm wafer.

The battery can be upgraded to 6 cell for €20.

Free upgrade to Windows 7 when it is launched.

    4GB RAM @800mhz

    250GB HD

For those that an 'Atom' netbook is not sufficent for their needs; this seems a good alternative around the €400 mark.

Ordered the above Dell with T4200 processor upgrade, for my daughter.
    Total price including delivery: €464.

Although, it will seldom be used on battery, I would reckon it was worth half the extra €35 for speedstep of the pentium and the other half for the extra mhz

Not a bad price, especially as the cheapest Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 Elara have is €375, after €55 cashback, with an Intel Celeron M900 processor and a 160 GB hard drive.

    X2 QL-64 processor:(

Don't know a lot about the AMDs but that processor performs even slower than the one in my three year old laptop (T2500) and way behind the T4200 above even with it's 2mb L2.
    At £349.97 + £10 p&p it is coming in a €410. It has a built in webcam, but only 3GB RAM. It has a standard 15.4" (1,280 x 800) widescreen as opposed to the 15.6" (1366 x 768) super?widescreen.

Yeah the processor sucks like anteater......

But find me another deal like that for €299!
Stick another gig of ram in their and for the majority of users which lets face it people only use a few apps. It's quite a capable machine.

Good for grannies and mammy's if nothing else
