Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I gauge all weights in bags of sugar. It takes more than 14 of these bastards to make 1 bag of sugar.

    I am therefore extremely unimpressed.

    Really ?
So the weight of bags of sugar doesn't vary on the size of bag or the amout of sugar ?

Ewwwwwwwww that's pretty gross. I feel sick!
    I hate insects!
But it doesn't compare to the giant hornet for scariness!

Yep, it's pretty big alright. I thought the heaviest insect was the Goliath Beetle of West Africa. I won't post a pic up as it might give some AHers nightmares.

Has anyone else notices that the bugs her in Erin seem to be getting bigger and more exotic looking each year?

They ended that sentence with a exclamation mark.

Stomped on a moth the other day and it made a high pitched 'pop' noise. I laughed.

That's not really the heaviest insect in the world.

They recently found a giant caterpillar that looks a lot larger:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthropleura 2.6m long millipede with a leg span of 1m

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meganeura
Meganeura monyi was a prehistoric insect of the Carboniferous period (300 million years ago), resembling and related to the present-day dragonfly. With a wingspan of more than 75 cm (2.5 ft) wide, it was the largest known flying insect species ever to appear on Earth. (The Permian Meganeuropsis permiana is another contender). It was predatory, feeding on other insects and even small amphibians.

Some fairly impressive Sea Lice attached to the side of O'Connell bridge in Dublin. Wood Lice on steroids.

Those cricket-like insects are harmless, it's the little feckers you have to worry about..

    Imagine stumbling across this beauty.

Oh my god - i'm gonna puke.

When I was driving today, there was a big spider hanging off my rear view mirror. I so thought he was gonna fall on me. I was sh*tting myself. It didn't help that I had to go over about ten ramps to get home. Distressing stuff.

But if THAT f*cking thing fell on me, I think I would actually NEVER get over it. Vomit!

I read that as "three times heavier than a moose."
I thought "Jaysus, that is heavy."
Then read it properly and am now disappointed. :(

I found a Weta in my house a month or two ago, it wasn't a giant though, just a regular Weta. It was still bigger than insects I'm used to though.

Freaked me out as I promptly squished it.
