Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A lexmark printer is never a good buy, even if it's free :) What you save in the beginning, you'll pay time and time again for ink.

At least HP dont charge as much for the official ink as epson do, if you were to buy it. ARG!

I saw one in LIDL and was tempted. I found some reviews online and kept my money in my pocket. It's an average printer, and the cost of ink is, relatively, high. And, according to one review, it has some way of identifying non-LEXMARK refill cartridges and won't work with them.

Seen that HP before, i thought it was a good deal, but this one appears to have a better spec than the HP!!

I have a Lexmark X4550 and it has the most annoying and obtrusive software I've ever encountered. It also eats ink at an alarming rate and I'm convinced there's plenty of ink left in the cartridges when they say it's empty. Have tried replacements/refills from 2 different companies and it rejected both so I'm stuck with Lexmark-brand ripoff cartridges. Quality isn't that great either.

Thankfully I only use it rarely for home use, if I used it more often I'd get rid of it and buy something else that didn't tie me in to such expensive ink.

I installed a X4650 the other day and I think its ok for people who don't print that much but if its easy for you to get to a PC World I'd go with the HP.

when you install a lexmark printer it adds a new service to your pc and it makes the print spoler dependant on the lexmark service

this means if you get rid of the lexmark printer (because its crap) you will have to leave the lexmark service running on your pc as the print spooler won't run without it

I got one of those X4650s printers in Lidl recently.
It's a nice little printer/scanner/copier but it's rather heavy on ink.

As already mentioned the catch is you get screwed on ink.
The printer cartridges that are included with the printer cannot be refilled !
It comes with Lexmark 36 and 37 cartridges. These are chipped and can only be refilled by returning them to Lexmark :(

If you want to refill the cartridges yourself you'll need to fork out almost the price of the printer again for lexmark 36A and 37A catridges. These ones can be refilled. While you are at it you may as well purchase the high yield lexmark 36XLA/37XLA catridges. They cost a little more but you can print more than twice as many pages.

I was looking for a Printer in Lidl too and picked up the HP J4580 for 99 euro. It prints, scans, copies and has a Fax too plus an automatic document feeder. I wasn't expecting much for 99 but was astounded at the print quality. There's a few left there today, would recommend over the Lexmark
(Good on a Mac too Rasmus)

Was in PC world recently and was looking at a HP printer. Sales guy said they only come with sample ink cartidges, good enough for 15-20 pages. Not sure if this was the same for all HP models.

Some printer manufacturers do that (think Canon do aswell), I think its because buying replacements of the origional cartridges can cost more than the printer cost!, thats how the manufacturers get you, its the ink costs, and the printer seems like a "bargain" at the time, until you realise the cost of ink :eek:

Slightly off-topic, byt can anyone recommend a good printer that won't cost a fortune in ink? I have a Lexmark that I bought ages ago (Z704) but it's expensive, Lexmark don't seem to make the cartridges any more and photos tend to fade after a few months. Don't need a scanner or fax, just want a good colour printer. Thanks.

Epson compatible inks are very cheap, see www.inkjet.ie or www.justmedia.ie, canons also generally have cheaper inks

Lexmark printers are junk!! I was on the phone with help desk for over an hour dealing with a VERY unhelpful service woman.Granted, it was the cheapest printer I could get that had a scanner. I think most new printers come with sample printer cartridges. My second set of cartridges have lasted a lot longer than the ones that came with the printer. I won't be buying another Lexmark. I'll probably go for an HP or Epson.
