Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My god, I'd love to know what you think of the car insurance/loan-shark ads.

This is just a question and not meant to cause offense but why is this called the soccer forum instead of the football forum. Sorry if this has been asked before!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,418 ✭✭✭curry-muff

All the Thick Country Vegetables would give out about how the 'foreign game' is destroying Ireland and that there's only one true form of football and that's the type played in a bog after 18 pints of stout the night before.

No idea - FIFA use football so thats good enough for me.

Always though of soccer as a yank expression to be honest.

I imagine it's 'cause soccer can't possibly be confused for anything else, avoiding both confusion and ammunition for trolls

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I always call it soccer and call Gaelic football football.

The forum is aptly named IMO.

Thats a stupid argument, it was the English themselves that named it soccer, so claiming its 'agricultural' isn't really accurate.

I know the majority of england does, I was just pointing out that the trend of calling it soccer started out in england not the US, it was seen as a shortened version of AsSOCiation of Football.

I'd rather a person think I'm weird for calling it soccer than them thinking I'm going to Gaelic Football training when I say football training.

Could be something got to do with the fact it has been pissing all day long here in Dublin.

Most people would have just bought at the gate knowing it wouldnt have been sold out.

Are you saying most Dub fans are fair weather fans...?It certainly looks like that to me as a complete outsider to the GAA.
