What are your top 5/10 Songs that you listen to to get psyched up before a race or event? Be as cheesy as you want!

    10. David Bowie - Major Tom
    9. Europe - The Final Countdown
    8. Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
    7. Welcome to the Jungle - Guns and Roses
    6. Thunderstruck - ACDC
    5. Where The Streets Have No Name - U2
    4. I'll See your heart and Raise you mine- Bell x1
    3. You’re The Best - Joe Esposito (Kirate Kid song)
    2. The Black Eyed Peas – Let’s Get It Started
    1. Not really a song but that speech that Al Pichino does in Every Given Sunday. Inches...

So lets have them then.......I have shown my cards!!:cool::cool::D:D:D

    Kenny Rogers - The Gambler

I base my race strategy on the lyrics.

Yes, at my age these days every race is like one last swallow of whiskey. I focus more on this verse

You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when youre sittin at the table.
Therell be time enough for countin when the dealins done.

    Mostly listen to -
Steel Panther (80's parody, like the Darkness only filthy, legends)
    QOTSA
    Faith No More
    EODM
    Pearl Jam
    AC/DC
    Foo Fighters

What about songs that get stuck in your head during an event, especially ones you don't want there.

I had "shout" by Tears for Fears all through the cycle in the last tri I did. Headwrecking.

I hate it when that happens. I did an Ironman last year and for the entire run I had Boney M 'Brown Girl in the Ring' in myhead.

The DJ was playing it in transition and I just could not get rid of it....

"show me a motion la la la, come on
Show me a motion la lal alalalalalallamfdja skljfnshdfweiafu shdfglnd

    Stop!!!!

haha, yeah, the broken down record syndrome can be a bit of a nightmare if the wrong one gets into your head.

I have a pre race playlist on my ipod with the following

    AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Suvivor - Eye of the Tiger
Jean Michel Jarre - Industrial Revolution
Jean Michel Jarre - Chronologie Part 1
Jean Michel Jarre - Chronologie Part 8

but I've gotten into the habit of not wearing my ipod to races now, so I have to just play them on a kazoo about 20 mins before the race to get the adrenaline going.

If you need to take a couple of mins off that pb, just stick on the soundtrack to any of the Bourne films. Everything becomes dramatic. And fast.

I did that, but I found myself diving into bushes to avoid the official photographs, snapping the necks off runners that came too close to me, and when I finished I hacked into the results and deleted all reference to me. :D

    It's gotta include:
    • Numb- Encoure - Jay Z
    • Lose yourself - Eminem
    Few more suggestions here! http://newtotri.com/?page_id=107

Nothing like hearing some tunes blaring on speakers before a race!:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 548 ✭✭✭Nwm2

'I got a feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas gets my adrenaline flowing because it seemed to be played at some of the first triathlons I did. When I hear it now the Pavlovian response kicks in.

Sinatra's New York New York blasting over the speakers on the Verrazano bridge with 40,000 other athletes ready for the off.. It'd raise the hairs on the back of your neck

If you're lookin for songs with a fast beat. Songs 2 - 5 really pick me up when you're getting sluggish.

1- Empire State - Jay Z and Alicia Keys - a nice warm up one first to get ya goin for NYC!!
    2- Acapella - Kellis
    3- Stay to Long - Plan B
    4- I Predict a Riot - Kaiser Chiefs
    5- Paper Planes - MIA

    Stem/Long stem – dj shadow
    Atlas – battles
    Banquet – Bloc Party
    Alone Again or – Calexico
    Grounds for Divorce – Elbow
Over and Over – hot chip
Mistaken for strangers – the national
Black Tongue – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    Land – Patti Smith
I wanna be your dog – the stooges
Although I defy anyone to control their pacing with the first one but for that nervous feeling just before the start it is the best!

    AC/DC Thunderstruck in loop mode

  • Registered Users Posts: 497 ✭✭Bugsy2000

There has to be a bit of Muse in there. The riffs on New Born, Plug In Baby, Hysteria or Knights of Cydonia can't help but get you moving. I find Florence & the Machine good on the ipod too. You can't beat The Doors for a long lazy run though - finished off with a cold pint bottle of cider.;)

    I used to sing
Pearl Jam 'Even Flow' and Snaps 'Rhythm is a dancer'
But just certain lines of them over and over again but that was in the 90's when I was carefree.
Now I just make lists in my head
Put on a black wash- Iron the shirts- peel the potatoes-Football at 8 etc etc
