How to learn a dance from slowing down a dvd?

Me and 2 friends want to learn some of the dance routines from Michael Jackson's music videos. There are 2 instructional dvds on the market, but one only teaches you individual moves like the moonwalk, not full routines, and the other only teaches the dance to thriller. So we ere thinking of maybe watching his music videos…

So we ere thinking of maybe watching his music videos in slow motion and trying to learn from that. Do you think this would work? Can anyone give us any tips?
