Jonjo. You're a fcuking legend. Brilliant thread, brilliant commentary, a masterclass in interactive tomfoolery, and I think everyone enjoyed it. Thx aswell to all other posters who kept it lovely. Thread moderated itself. Never got too nasty. Bravo Jonjo.

Agreed. It made the show for me this year and I'm looking forward to next year already.

The Cork rose was on the radio last week, she was on about people on the internet calling her fat. She says she doesn't care what people say.
Why did she google herself so?

But read back on this whole thread and it was so funny..without getting out of hand.
I bet it would have been great to watch the 2 shows in full while posting here & having a few cans! Good for you anyone who did that :)

Jonjo, great stuff!! Whats the next gig you are commentating on??

The tone of the thread was so like the competition. It was lovely. AHer's being funny yet knowing if they weren't the right side of gentle they'd be ****ed. The sister/brother would frown and they'd blush. But they'd both be biting lips. Perfect.:)

Totally random question but would anyone know where it would be possible to get a picture of Aoife Kelly (last year's Rose of Tralee) from last night? Getting married in January and would love to get my hair put up the same way. I know she thanked her hairdresser but didnt quite catch their name.

RTE now show certain recent shows on their website I believe - http://www.rte.ie/player/, give that a try and you might even get her on video. Also there are plenty of pics of her on Google Images, not from last night but maybe one of them has your desired hairdo in it

I spotted this one on the Independents website after reading your post! Not great since it's just the back but I'm assuming the photos are out there

Think that creep singing dropped the hand and she had to leg it.

Why was he singing at the end? He didn't really fit in. Isn't it usually someone with a opera style voice who sings the Rose of Tralee at the end.

Why was nobody kissing/hugging the winner? Usually Ray has to drag the winner away from her new friends to stand at the front for the photos and song.

The escort wasn't talking to her on the way out either. Nobody looked too delighted for her.

    Strange.

was the winning rose the one who was slagging off all the other roses? about their accents etc?

that yorkshire rose (the one with the blonde hair and the red dress)
by god she was some wepon, she slagged off the other roses (getting a very dirty look from one of the american roses in the audiance), she slated her boyfriend live on stage and most of all she put down Tralee, the town she would be representing if she won.

in the words of roy from the IT Crowd.... "whattabitch!"

i liked the perth rose, she was lovely.

well, she was saying that they slagged her for saying sausages funny, and she was like "coming from the shhhliigoo rose". Camera zooms in on the sligo rose and the south carolina rose (Kirsten Johnson look alike). and the face on the american one was like "WTF?"

then she says bout the boyfriend, shouting at him from the stage "actulaly, you do know Tom (or whatever his name was) we met 2 years ago today in dingle.....YOU BETTER HAVE A PRESENT FOR ME!!" as appose to doing it nicely like everyone else.

thenthe whole thing with the sign post. ray was like "oh isnt it kid of bad dat dingle dont put a sign post up in english" and shes like "well, i think its tralees fault for not having a proper signpost" really bitchy tone in her voice. she actualy got a boo.

like in fairness, maybe she was just nervouse, but seriously, slaggin off the town your going to represent if you win, bad move.

Aoife is lovely, I met her at the regional finals and she was very friendly, very sociable and good craic. I guess thats why she won! You got the impression that she was genuine too, she wasnt at all fake! She was agreat winner and so pretty. Its a shame Ireland is losing her to South Africa! I wish she would stay!

This years was good - young modern irish women all over the world doing amazing things! Apart from a few (Yorkshire in particular who was just not ROT material!) Ray can be a bit innappropriate at times but I guess he is trying to shock they over rehersed people and see how they react.

Some bad dresses this year, some bad party pieces and jimmy buckley wasnt a good choice. he does look creepy!

This years winner - v v v intelligent. i think that its a good thing that somone like her is getting this kind of recognition esp in the celeb culture of jordan et al. ROT is about role models etc and i think its a great festival for us all to be inspired by. I know i was amazed at how successful some of them were! it is the most modern thing of its kind i.e. not a beauty thing, but a celebration of young irish women.

I know! it was so bad! yorkshire will have to get new judges for that heat!

I thought she seemed like a laugh, she broke up the normal pattern and gave different answers. She wasn't pandering to the crowd or being fake, she spoke as she would to anybody, anywhere. To me that seemed kind of cool!

And on a different note, I think they picked a really classy winner. She oozed class and intelligence.

They called last years winner "The 50th Rose of Tralee" so I'm guessing it's not that secret :D

I was just watching the 5 decades of Roses Documentary tonight.

The 1977 Rose is still better looking than some of the birds from last night.

    Once a Rose indeed....

Now that they allow single mothers to enter, could we call it "The Ho's of Tralee"?

Some of them were common as muck. Especially that Kilkenny one. Shocking

her brother and sister in public there faces turn bright red and they had to smile they had no choice really.kerry rose was perfect in every way right down to flawless skin and bleach white teeth, almost staged in some way.
