    Tá mé ag iarraidh teacht ar an dóigh is deise le rá go raibh ócáid nó imeacht ar leith ina "hit" - leithéid "the event was a big hit".

    Tá sé seo ag dul a bheith mar cheannlíne i bpreasráiteas dátheangach, mar sin de beidh leagán amach mar seo agam i mBéarla: "Sports day a big hit for primary school", nó mar sin.

    De réir focal.ie, tá an focal "cnag" ann i leith amhráin, ach mothaím nach bhfóireann sé sa chás seo. Moltaí ar bith?

    Rath means properity, success or good fortune and is often used to indicate something being popular or a success.

    Could 'Rath mór ar lá spóirt na bunscoile' also mean 'Good luck to the national school's Sport's Day?

    I'm not sure but maybe 'ráchairt' could be used. As in
    'An-ráchairt ar lá spóirt na bunscoile' which could mean 'National School's Sport's Day very popular'.. but maybe not insinuating enough of the 'hit' part..

    or

    Éirí geal le lá spóirt na bunscoile

    (if you can use éirigh for success as a noun here!) :)

    RATH!! Sin an focal a bhí uaim, níl a fhios agam cén fáth nach raibh mé in ann teacht air. Bhí mé ag smaoineamh ar "rachairt" ach tá sé sin níos cosúil le "éileamh", agus tá an t-alt seo ag déanamh tuairisc ar rud atá críochnaithe in áit ag fógairt rud atá go fóill le toiseacht. Níor tháinig mé ar "éirí geal" roimhe, ach is dócha go luíonn sé le ciall mar ainmfhocal - Éirí Amach na Cásca, mar shampla.

    Cibé, bhí brú ama orm agus chuaigh mé le "áitheas" sa deireadh - "An-áitheas ar scéim shamhraidh lán-Ghaeilge Bhaile an Chaistil". Ach go raibh maith agaibh as bhur gcuidithe!
