Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Prob shouldn't be driving to the docks then really.

Mate of mine reckons he got a ticket up north for no tax on an Irish car

I presume once you have insurance and your car is roadworthy, ie the tyres and lights look ok to the glancing eye the law won't bother you. Tax is charged only at country of registration and NCT/MOT disc is not standardised across EU, most states don't require it to be displayed, ie UK.

We had a driver in Northern Ireland who had to pay a fine of about £230 as his (ROI) tax was out of date by a couple of months. If he didn't pay the fine they were going to impound the car.

OP - wouldn't chance it myself.

A lot of this would be covered by EU regs but local laws apply too. Its not a simple situation.
I looked into this from the point of view of the UK MOT and the answer from a VOSA inspector was that once a car is on the road it needs a test. If it is Irish it needs an NCT but in the UK it is possible to MOT a non UK registered car. In Ireland it is not possible to NCT a non Irish registered car.

In Spain the police will ask for a test and tax for foreign registered cars. It is possible to ITV (Spanish test) a foreign car but if stopped they will then look for tax, which is not possible, and want to know why the car has not been registered in Spain.

I have been asked for MOT on an Irish commercial in both France and Spain. I was questioned about why an Irish commercial had a UK tax disk in France (that was a fun conversation).

In short, I believe you should have both test and tax and would be very lucky to get away with it.
