Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hows it goin,

I havnt managed to fix the problem I was rambling about in this thread, so now that I have time on my hands I will simply start over I think.

Can anyone offer me advice on how to completely format my vostro 1500 without being able to boot my windows CD or ERD commander(and I guess other windows utilities :/ ) If I use something like gParted, could I wipe the partitions and reinstall windows from there?

As it stands I have one large non-functional xp partition and a small working linux one(also mediadirect which does not work). I would like to erase both and start over with xp.

All hardware tests check out. Ive read of a restoration partition on vostros accessed via the "advanced options" or something by pressing f8, but I dont seem to have this option.

Are you using a RAID by any chance?

Use a windows vista install cd and wipe the disk then exist the installation.
    Aka WinPE.

Hmm, not sure where id find a vista cd, and no, not using RAID.

Why is it I get BSoD if i try to boot from an xp cd? surely this should be independent of my windows problems? :/

After I get the drive wiped, is it as simple as sticking in the xp cd, or is there a chance my problem would remain?

Yes, a GParted livecd will let you wipe everything. You can use your XP cd to re-install then, assuming it doesn't continue bluescreening (hope it's something to do with checking for existing installs that causes it atm)
