Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Drama on Parnell Street

A window in an office block somehow got smashed and lots of glass fell to the street below. In one instance a lump of it very narrowly missed a passing woman. The screams of the woman alerted the guys in Peats who called the Fire Brigade. The half broken window was blowing with the wind and showering folks with broken glass in the street below.

Below are some photos from the scene:

    The window in question.

The Fire Brigade springing into action. (Needs to be brightened I know)

    Getting ready to head up.

There were plenty of onlookers and plenty of eejits who the fire brigade had to tell to stand back in case of falling glass. Thankfully these folk had some sense and stayed well away.

There wasn't much for these guys to do as part of the area was cordoned off.

    Checking their gear.

    And he's on his way.

He had to go up twice as the first time his pick axe style tool was too short and he had to come down for a longer tool.

    And away it goes.

It's not everyday you see the Fire Brigade outside your office window.

On his way down for the longer tool.

There was plenty of traffic disruption.

Shards of glass littered the footpath.

    Back at it again.

At this point my batteries died! Full set on Flickr here for anyone who might be interested.

My apologies for the quality of the photos. I'm really not comfortable with street photography particuarly where there is a big crowd and I was the only one with a DSLR!

    ^ agreed
They are some great shots and told really well too, well done :0

As for the glass, I'd say bird, since the first layer is intact

My work colleagues mentioned I should do this. I'm going to have a look here as to what I should say in my email but in case I don't find the info I need would someone mind giving me an idea of what I should say, how many images I should email etc.

Many thanks for the kind words folks.

Bad install by the looks of it, its toughened glass so something must have pressed against the edge of the glass inside the frame to cause it to break. Should have been toughened laminated units. going to be costly to replace that unit !

I cant imagine a bird doing that, would prob just bounce of it.
a pigeon dived and then didnt get enough lift to clear my friends kitchen window, no breakage.

even at higher speed against toughened glass it should not do any damage
