    A house definitely up there. Especially given its an Alternative Indie thread. No doubt about it whatsoever. Endless Art, Call Me Blue, Ill Always be grateful, here comes the good times, Kick me again Jesus. All terrific songs.

    These are obviously a joke, right?

    Back to A House, defo right that they belong here being an alternative forum. NME called them the best Irish band ever, including U2, and I beleive they topped the old independent charts in the UK a number of times (Kick me again Jesus being one of them)

    Still on topic, The Pales 'Butterfly' as posted before, Blinks ' It's not my fault' and most of Sunbears stuff..

    One thing is for sure, things are very slack at the moment when it comes to seminal Irish indie moments..

    The recession should sort all of that out tho, great time for musicians..

    true but going by that theory 'scorn not...' is a phil coulter song.Sinead has made the song her own and deserves her spot on any 'best of irish set list'.Pity it hard to come up with many more female artists to accompany her.

    So Cow is probably my favourite irish musician.He's written three albums of excellent stuff.

    I think there are alot of other great bands around Ireland at the moment passed the usual Coronas-based-tripe.Such as Grand Pocket Orchestra, Squarehead, No Monster Club, plus that whole Popical Island thing has some great bands on it.
    Of old song, I'd say Scorn not his simplicity is one of my favourites.

    There's one chord change in the chorus that just floors me each time.

    So Cow-Ain't No Fun, although very specific cultural references in it which I'd question people outside Ireland would get.

    Sorry to drag this up again, but it's actually the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is not part of Britain. Britain is England, Scotland and Wales.

    Northern Irish is the correct term, not British. So calling bands from the North Irish is technically correct.

    This is also incorrect
    Britain = England + Wales
    Great Britain = England + Wales + Scotland
    UK = GB + NI

    Discuss the ins and outs of the United Kingdom elsewhere.

    Actually, taking a look at this thread it doesn't really belong in Alt/Indie at all.

    Moved to Music

    Yes there were a lot of irish bands that were brill that should have made it. Stars of Heaven, A House, Something Happens, Radiators from Space and of course the Blades. And of course you couldn't leave out Fatima Mansions and Microdisney. Still nice to hear Dave Couse from a House on the radio every sunday.

    Agree with most of those (Never really got the Rads.) My personal pick(and I'm delighted to see you mention them) would be the Stars of Heaven. One of my all time favourite bands. Incredible songs, Sacred heart Hotel, So You Know, Widows Walk, You Only Say What Anyone could Say, 2 O'Clock Waltz, Lights of Tetouan... I could go on and on. Easily the best Irish band there's ever been in my book. Criminally under appreciated. When I see the likes of Jerry ****ing Fish being listed here I just despair. Honourable mentions to The Blades - Downmarket, Microdisney-Town To Town, two classic songs.
