Alright, I'll be entering first year computer science, coming over from the hugely prestigious Orts programme offered by UCD.

I was just wondering what the story is with setting up a society? whats the process involved? really interested in starting one, actually is there a list anywhere of the current societies in DIT?

    http://www.socs.dit.ie

15 Payed up members , a good idea , a committee , and budget proposals for the year are the main stuff needed.

Most socs have there Ups and downs over the years , its also hard not having one campus
, but i would say the standard in Dit is very high and
some of the socs could easily be considered the best of there type of society in any college.

the rule is your surpose to join at least 3 socs, one based on something you like, one based on something new you want to try , and one random/crazy one.

    Not sure what to recommend
Gamesoc (had to say that on the committee:D) , DJ soc , Gig soc, Drama soc , Break dance, Bam soc, Fashion , LGBT, Paintball. Are some of the bigger societies , most of them won socs awards last year too. But some of the newer or smaller societies can be just as much fun.

sounds fun, what would the events be like?

  • Registered Users Posts: 330 ✭✭Irishtrekkie

I swear to god is someone starts a mario kart soc i will not be happy  . We have a gamesoc Already ,

And we cover all games and already have equipment for events (like projectors wii and yes copies of mario kart). Why not just join the committee and start up a Mario kart event. We had this stuff before with pro evo soc , which made no sense as played a hell of alot of pro evo last year

    who the **** are you

At this point I'm going to remind everyone that this is a civil place, so lets be civilised.

We've had a bit of a mad run in the forum with all the first years and a mention in the new handbook from the SU. Let's not get the run of ourselves.

If we have to we'll start issuing bans. And no one wants that...

Lets be honest if randomcountdown did not post it would give mods like projectmayhem very little to do or anybody to ban, its what they live for really

what else is he going to moderate
    the pie forum

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 214 ✭✭Assmaster_Kronk

I also think it would be prudent to create a separate society for each console, you know.........for specialisation and resource purposes, i mean gamesoc's good and all........but GameBoySoc could have AGM's on the ****ter

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

No more discussion of modding, moderators or anything else. It's tiring...

    Back on topic.

    ...mario kart soc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

Thing is, takes way longer to set up a new account than it takes to click the ban buttons.

Still though, time that couldn't possibly be better spent talking to a girl or anything.
