These are most useful in conjunction with the more recent NRA traffic stats as they show a higher level of granularity and allow assumptions to be made on short stretches .

Lets have a look at Ballinasloe shall we ????

    Granular counts from 2000

    Historic series to 2006

    Modern Series post 2006

The modern series shows that there is no traffic counter in Ballinasloe but there is in Kilreekil 10 miles west . About 10000 cars a day .

If we look at the year 2000 data we see that 7660 cars passed thru the N65 / N6 junction west of there but that there is no Kilreekil data .

Assuming a high correlation ( Kilreekil and n65 junction 2 miles to its west) the 2009 traffic is some 30% higher than the 2000 data.

We can therefore add 30% to these other 2000 values for Ballinasloe .
    HS T31 TO PORTUMNA 14415
    BEGIN INNER RELIEF RD 10185
END INNER RELIEF @ BR ST16351
T JN RHS TO SHANNONBR 9100
This means the Bridge in Ballinasloe is taking 21300 cars a day BUT note the figure below . Only 9100 cars passed through the Shannonbridge junction meaning that 7500 cars were lost at St Brigids or out the Taughmaconnell road . This Shannonbridge value would translate into 11830 today and not all of these will join the motorway.

A fascinating number is the 14415 in the Portiuncula / Supervalu general area in 2000 . This would mean 18700 today .

If the traffic counter in Kilreekil is only measuring 10000 units a day now then that means that 19000 odd cars enter Ballinasloe West of which slightly over half are local and slightly under are through traffic .

I must apologise for giving out about them so, they are the bulk of traffic on that stretch not the through traffic they hold up with their retarded parking and crap road manners :)
