I was just wondering, the pro lisbon campaign has officially been launched and there is no sing of FG or Labour. I mean if only FF are going to advocate the treaty then we can pretty much say goodbye to Lisbon as the no side will use this to point out that this is a vote against the government. Kenny once said that FG will be the main advocates of Lisbon and that he will make a big campaign for it, I wonder now where is he?

As far as I know, pretty much all the official Yes campaigns kick off in the next week or so.

I have heard Prionisas de Rossa, Pat Rabbitte, Ruari Quinn, Joe McHugh and some other FGer on the radio advocating a Yes to Lisbon. I have also heard Dick Roche, Niall Blaney and some young Fianna Failler (one of the internal opposition lads from Wexford) supportung the Lisbon treaty I have heard more from the opposition than FF which is unsurprising. Because of their membership of the CD and Socialist blocs FG and Labour have become knee jerk pro European. FF must lead the campaign so that when (hopefully if) it falls the Labour and FG parties are not too tainted by its failure.

On a domestic political basis I don't want the opposition damaged by supporting a useful and relatively innocuous EU treaty.

(I think that Lisbon legitimates the Nice treaty by improving the democratic structures of the EU to match the transfer of powers under Nice (I accept that a democratic deficit remains at EU level but believe that Lisbon improves this. At any rate our No voters in the main don't care about the democratic deficit. ))

The EPP is the Christian Democrats. I am not surprised that you don't know that as you have made no effort to educate yourself about the Lisbon treaty.

I have no objection to you or Mr. Durkan holding a view.
However, I do object to him standing outside a church screaming through a loudspeaker.
I also think it foolish of someone six weeks before a referendum to admit to not understanding it and not appearing to want to try to understand it.
