Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

anyone ever used a woodpellet fire insert with channelling.
have been looking at one thank allows for ducting to be added
to the unit that can be directed to 2 additional areas.

i spoke with a guy that supplies them and he say that a €3.00
back of pellets woould give approx 2 -3 hours turn time for approx 7 - 10 days.

    anyone any experiance of these??

    cheers

    Hi,

I would expect a stove of that output to use between .6 and 2.4 kg of pellet per hour.

Depends on the make, model, efficiency and the heat you looking for, the more heat that is required the more fuel it will use.

Yes, as PeteHeat says a Pellet Stove is merely a device for converting pellet biomass fuel to heat as an oil burner converts an oil fuel.

How much fuel you use is then a function of the efficiency of this conversion and the rate of heat loss through your building fabric. Therefore to say that a bag of pellets should last x hours or days is really meaningless.

The real question is “how much heat do you require to pump into your building to keep it warm”. The temperature difference between inside and outside the house is a function of input (heat in) v output (heat out or losses).

    Hi rayh,

It can be a little easier and more accurate to calculate depending on the stove software and how it is operated.

For example on some stoves if you set the heat output at level 1 the most that unit will provide is say 2.0 Kw (that being the output at level 1), regardless of the heat required by the room the stove will not produce anymore than the settings for level 1,

Depending on the efficiency of the stove it may use only .7 Kg of wood pellet per hour to achieve 2.0 kw heat output.

Some people prefer to set the stove to start at level 5 (full output) and allow it to modulate back as the room temperature increases, which brings us to your description regarding heat loss temperature variations etc.

In this scenario the stove starts producing say 8 Kw of heat using 2.5 Kg of wood pellet per hour, as the temperature rises the output decreases as does the amount of fuel being used because the Kw rate has reduced.

That said without knowing the building, insulation levels, heat loss etc we can't guarantee the output of the stove will drop to the lowest level (1) during the proposed two hours, therefore we can't guarantee the amount of fuel the stove will use in the one > two hour time frame.

The amount of fuel used at level 5 will not change if the heat produced (say 8 Kw) is being used to the full (heat loss etc) so you may be using 2.5 Kg of pellet per hour all the time the stove is in use.
